Garmin has officially launched Garmin Pay in the Philippines, introducing a contactless payment feature that lets users pay directly from compatible Garmin smartwatches. The rollout expands wearable functionality beyond fitness tracking, positioning Garmin devices as everyday payment tools integrated into the local digital finance ecosystem.
The feature arrives as contactless and cashless payments continue to grow in the country, driven by wider adoption of digital banking and mobile-first financial services.
Wearable payments expand Garmin’s connected ecosystem
With Garmin Pay, users can link eligible debit or credit cards to their smartwatch and complete transactions using a simple tap-and-go process. The feature removes the need to carry wallets or smartphones for small, everyday purchases.
To start using the service, users must add eligible cards via the Garmin Connect app, set a secure passcode on their smartwatch, select a payment card if multiple are linked, and tap on any supported contactless terminal.
Garmin positions the feature as part of its broader strategy to extend smartwatch functionality into everyday lifestyle use cases, beyond health and fitness tracking.
Bank and payment network partnerships power local rollout
The Philippines launch is supported through partnerships with GoTyme Bank and EastWest Bank, alongside global payment networks Visa and Mastercard.
These partnerships enable secure tokenized transactions, where card details are replaced with unique digital identifiers to reduce fraud risk during payments.
According to participating institutions, the integration is designed to improve access to cashless payments for wearable users, strengthen digital payment adoption in retail and transport, expand financial inclusion through device-based transactions, and support real-time secure payment authentication.
Visa highlighted its tokenization system as a key security layer, while Mastercard emphasized the growing demand for flexible payment experiences that fit into everyday routines.
Positioning wearable payments in daily life use cases
Garmin Pay targets everyday scenarios where quick, phone-free transactions are more convenient, such as commuting, exercising, or running errands. Users can make payments without unlocking a phone or accessing a wallet.
Common use cases include buying coffee after workouts, paying for groceries and retail purchases, using contactless terminals in public transport, and completing quick in-store transactions while traveling.
Garmin Pay is designed for environments where speed and convenience matter, particularly for users with active lifestyles, reinforcing its role as a practical extension of smartwatch-based payments.
Expanding beyond payments through Garmin’s digital ecosystem
Beyond retail transactions, Garmin Pay also integrates with the Connect IQ Store, allowing users to purchase apps, watch faces, and digital content directly from their smartwatch ecosystem.
This extends Garmin’s smartwatch platform into a broader digital services model, where devices function not only as fitness tools but also as payment and customization hubs.
The launch reflects a broader shift toward wearable and mobile-first payments in the Philippines, where digital wallets and contactless systems continue to gain traction across banking and retail sectors.
With Garmin Pay, smartwatch users now gain another option in the country’s expanding cashless ecosystem, alongside existing mobile wallet and card-based contactless systems.
Garmin Pay is now available in the Philippines for compatible Garmin smartwatches. The service currently supports cards from GoTyme Bank and EastWest Bank, with more potential expansions expected as adoption grows.
