Visa launches Visa University in the Philippines to train next-generation payments, banking professionals

Visa has launched Visa University in the Philippines, a new education initiative aimed at strengthening payments knowledge and developing talent across banking, fintech, and merchant sectors.

The program is part of Visa’s broader push to support digital finance transformation in the country by equipping professionals with practical skills in payments systems, emerging technologies, and financial infrastructure.

Visa expands payments education through Visa University

Visa University serves as the company’s global learning platform for payments and banking professionals. It combines Visa’s internal expertise with case studies from global and regional markets.

In the Philippines, the platform focuses on building foundational and advanced knowledge in areas such as payments processing fundamentals, issuing and acquiring systems, credit card profit and loss structures, and emerging payment technologies and trends.

The initiative is led by Visa Consulting and Analytics, Visa’s advisory arm for financial institutions.

Inaugural forum gathers banks, fintechs, and merchants

Visa held the first Visa University forum at the Asian Institute of Management, bringing together participants from banks, fintech companies, and merchants.

More than 130 professionals joined the session, which covered core payments concepts as well as emerging trends such as agentic commerce applications, risk management solutions in digital payments, and evolving payments infrastructure in Southeast Asia.

The event highlights growing demand for structured upskilling as financial institutions adapt to faster, more complex digital payment ecosystems.

Focus on workforce development in a rapidly evolving payments landscape

Visa Philippines Country Manager Jeffrey Navarro emphasized the importance of strengthening skills in the sector as financial systems continue to evolve.

Instead of relying solely on traditional training, Visa University aims to provide structured learning pathways for early-career professionals and experienced practitioners working in banking and fintech.

The program also aligns with broader industry trends, where digital payments adoption is accelerating across retail, e-commerce, and financial services in the Philippines.

Part of Visa’s broader fintech and education strategy

Visa University is not a standalone initiative. It builds on Visa’s existing advisory and training programs, including collaborations with global institutions such as INSEAD.

The company is also exploring partnerships with local universities and professional organizations to expand access to payments education in the Philippines.

By combining industry expertise with academic collaboration, Visa aims to develop a more skilled workforce capable of supporting a more secure and inclusive digital economy.

Strengthening the Philippines’ digital payments ecosystem

The launch comes as the Philippines continues to shift toward cashless and digital-first transactions. Industry players are investing in infrastructure, security, and education to support this transition.

Visa University positions itself as a long-term capability-building effort, helping financial professionals keep pace with rapid changes in payment technologies and consumer behavior.
