Coins.ph Launches ‘College Bitcoin Builder’ for Filipino Students
Coins.ph has launched the “Coins College Bitcoin Builder,” a four-year financial education program aimed at teaching Filipino college students the principles of long-term Bitcoin holding.
The initiative, described as the first of its kind in the Philippines, introduces students to a structured “buy and hold” approach to Bitcoin (BTC). Coins.ph is a Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP)-regulated digital asset exchange and mobile wallet platform.
The program centers on building financial discipline rather than short-term trading, encouraging participants to commit to a multi-year strategy.
Program Focuses on Long-Term BTC Holding
Bitcoin is often referred to as “digital gold” due to its fixed supply cap of 21 million coins. While prices remain volatile, long-term holders have historically viewed scarcity and adoption growth as key factors in Bitcoin’s value proposition.
Coins.ph cites data showing Bitcoin posting a 222% increase over the past four years, compared to an estimated 13% decline in the Philippine peso’s purchasing power over the same period.
Through the College Bitcoin Builder, students are guided through a four-year journey designed to reinforce consistency and patience.
Matched BTC Incentives and Locked Rewards
Under the program, eligible students who deposit ₱100 worth of BTC will receive a ₱100 BTC match from Coins.ph. The match is capped at ₱100 per year for four years and is credited to a dedicated Builder Wallet.
Matched rewards are locked for the full four-year period to promote long-term holding. Trading is disabled within the Builder Wallet to discourage speculation.
Participants may withdraw their original deposits at any time. However, doing so results in automatic exit from the program and forfeiture of all matched rewards, which are only unlocked upon completion of the four-year term.
“We believe good financial habits are best learned early, and it’s about direction and dedication, not capital,” said Wei Zhou, CEO of Coins.ph. “This program teaches students to dedicate four years to building their financial foundation.”
Eligibility and Enrollment
The program is open to Filipino college or vocational students aged 18 and above who are currently enrolled in CHED-recognized colleges or universities, or TESDA-accredited institutions.
Interested students may enroll through the Coins.ph platform and receive a dedicated Builder Wallet upon approval.
Coins.ph said the initiative leverages its BSP-licensed status as a virtual asset exchange, positioning the program within a regulated framework.
