Grab Philippines is giving teenagers more freedom to book their own rides while keeping parents and guardians connected through its new Grab for Family feature.
The feature allows teens aged 13 to 17 to book Grab rides independently. Once linked to a Family Account, their parents can monitor trips in real time, communicate with the teen and driver, and access additional safety tools throughout the journey.
More freedom without losing visibility
Grab for Family is built around giving parents visibility without requiring them to book every ride for their teenagers.
Parents can follow a teen’s journey through a live map and receive automated updates when a driver is assigned, vehicle details become available, the passenger is picked up, the destination is reached, and the trip is completed.
Grab can also flag unexpected stops or route deviations and send in-app prompts to check whether the passenger is safe when a journey does not go as expected.

The rollout comes as Grab says sign-ups for its Family Accounts in the Philippines have more than doubled over the past year. According to the company, family members who join a Family Account also take about 70% more rides during their first month.
Safety tools stay active throughout the ride
Beyond trip monitoring, Grab for Family brings several existing safety features into the teen’s ride.
Ride PIN adds a verification step before the trip begins. The passenger and driver must match the unique code shown in the app before proceeding, helping confirm that the teen is entering the correct vehicle.
Parents can also use 3-Way Chat to join the conversation between their teen and the driver. This gives families a shared channel for communicating pickup points, landmarks, or other trip details.
Another feature, AudioProtect, enables encrypted audio recording on both the passenger’s and driver’s devices during a ride. Grab says the recordings cannot be accessed by either party and are only reviewed by its safety team when a formal report is submitted.
These tools work alongside Grab’s Safety Center and Emergency Help functions for additional assistance when needed.

How to set up Grab for Family
Parents can activate the feature within the existing Grab app by inviting a teenager through their mobile number or a unique invitation link.
After the teen accepts the invitation, the parent approves the request and identifies the account as belonging to a teen. The relevant safety features are then activated once the accounts are linked.
Parents can also manage shared payment methods and adjust available safety settings based on their family’s needs.
A middle ground for Filipino families
The new feature addresses a familiar challenge for families with teenagers: giving them enough independence to handle everyday trips while allowing parents to know where they are and whether the journey is progressing normally.
“Safety and peace of mind have always been important to how we serve families on Grab,” said CJ Lacsican, Head of Mobility at Grab Philippines.
With Grab for Family, teenagers can take more responsibility for arranging their own transportation while parents retain access to trip information and safety controls from their own accounts.
