Garmin has expanded its Forerunner lineup in the Philippines with the launch of the Forerunner 70 and Forerunner 170 series, strengthening its presence in the entry-to-mid range GPS running smartwatch segment.
The release targets casual runners and fitness beginners who want structured training tools, health tracking, and smartwatch features without moving into premium sports watch pricing.
AMOLED display and hybrid controls for everyday fitness tracking
The new lineup includes the Garmin Forerunner 70 and Garmin Forerunner 170, both featuring a 1.2-inch AMOLED display paired with touchscreen input and Garmin’s traditional five-button interface.
This hybrid design supports usability during workouts, especially in outdoor runs where sweat, rain, or movement can affect touchscreen responsiveness. Both models also support smart notifications, LiveTrack, and basic safety features.

Training and health features expand Garmin’s running ecosystem
Garmin Forerunner 70 series is positioned as a training-focused wearable with built-in GPS, wrist-based heart rate monitoring, and performance metrics such as pace and distance, according to Garmin.
Key training features include Garmin Coach adaptive training plans, daily suggested workouts based on recovery data, a quick workout generator based on time and intensity, run/walk training modes for beginners, and advanced metrics such as training readiness, HRV status, running dynamics, and access to over 80 sports modes.
These features align with the broader trend of wearable brands shifting toward AI-assisted training guidance and personalized fitness ecosystems.
Forerunner 170 adds music, payments, and lifestyle functions
The Forerunner 170 series builds on the base model by adding lifestyle-focused features, including offline music storage in the Forerunner 170 Music variant.

The standard Forerunner 170 also supports Garmin Pay, which is expected to roll out in the Philippines soon, allowing contactless payments from the wrist.
These additions position the 170 series closer to mainstream smartwatches while maintaining its focus on fitness tracking and endurance sports.
Battery life and pricing in the Philippines
Battery performance remains a key selling point across the lineup of the Garmin Forerunner 70 series, with the Forerunner 70 offering up to 13 days of usage in smartwatch mode, while the 170 and 170 Music deliver up to 10 days.
Local pricing in the Philippines is set at ₱15,990 for the Forerunner 70, ₱19,290 for the Forerunner 170, and ₱22,290 for the Forerunner 170 Music.
Garmin confirms the series is available for pre-order through Kinetic and Garmin official stores on Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok ahead of its June 3 launch.
