BPI, Gogolook Team Up to Strengthen Scam Protection for Filipino Customers

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is partnering with Gogolook to strengthen its customers’ defenses against fraudulent calls and messages as digital scams become increasingly sophisticated.

Under the partnership, qualified BPI clients will receive 12 months of complimentary Whoscall Premium Basic, Gogolook’s anti-scam application that helps identify unknown callers, block suspicious calls, and filter potentially fraudulent messages.

BPI customers get added protection through Whoscall

The partnership combines BPI’s banking expertise with Gogolook’s scam-detection technology, giving customers another layer of protection when using their phones for banking and other transactions.

Whoscall Premium Basic can help users identify unknown callers, block spam and scam calls, filter suspicious messages, and verify legitimate BPI outbound communications. Eligible customers will receive instructions on how to activate and redeem their complimentary 12-month access through official BPI communication channels.

The initiative also targets one of the more common problems in digital banking: determining whether an unexpected call or message actually comes from a legitimate institution.

By helping customers identify official BPI communications and flag suspicious ones, the partnership aims to reduce uncertainty while encouraging users to remain cautious when dealing with financial information.

BPI still urges customers to verify suspicious communications

While Whoscall provides an additional security layer, BPI emphasized that customers should not treat the app as a replacement for standard fraud precautions. Alma Aldip, Head of Unsecured Lending and Cards – Product and Sales at BPI, said scam awareness remains important as fraud tactics become more difficult to identify.

She also clarified that Whoscall is a third-party application, meaning its features and performance are handled by Gogolook rather than BPI.

Customers who receive suspicious calls, messages, or requests claiming to come from BPI can contact the bank’s 24-hour Contact Center at (+632) 889-10000 or the domestic toll-free number 1-800-188-89-100.

Gogolook brings anti-scam technology to the partnership

For Gogolook, the collaboration expands its efforts to address increasingly localized forms of digital fraud. Manwoo Joo, Global Chief Operations Officer at Gogolook, noted that scam tactics continue to evolve, making cooperation between financial institutions and technology providers increasingly important.

The partnership gives BPI customers access to Whoscall’s tools while reinforcing the broader role of technology in helping consumers distinguish legitimate communications from potential scams.

As digital banking adoption continues, partnerships like this highlight a shift toward multi-layered fraud protection, combining financial institutions’ own security measures with third-party tools that can help customers identify threats before they become financial losses.
