Dune: Awakening is gearing up for its September console launch, with Funcom revealing new PlayStation 5 gameplay footage, a film-inspired DLC, and plans to introduce PC-console cross-play after launch.
The announcements were made during Gamescom 2026, where attendees also had their first opportunity to play the upcoming PlayStation 5 version of the open-world survival game.
Originally released on PC in June 2025, Dune: Awakening will arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 22, 2026. The console release will include a full single-player mode, the conclusion to the game’s story, and a year’s worth of PC updates and enhancements.
Seven Minutes of Dune: Awakening PS5 Gameplay
Funcom has released seven minutes of new Dune: Awakening gameplay captured on a PlayStation 5 Pro, offering players a closer look at how the survival RPG performs on consoles.
On the base PlayStation 5, Performance Mode targets 60 frames per second with dynamic resolution, while the PlayStation 5 Pro’s Performance Mode also runs at 60 fps.
Quality Mode runs at 30 fps on both consoles, with both PlayStation 5 models supporting upscaled 4K resolution in Performance and Quality modes.
The footage also gives players a look at the game’s desert environments, exploration, combat, vehicles, and other systems ahead of the September console launch.
Filmic Archive DLC Brings Dune Movie Looks
Funcom also announced Filmic Archive, a new DLC featuring outfits and cosmetic content inspired by Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films.
Launching alongside the console version on September 22, the DLC includes the Aegis of the Unwalked Path armor, inspired by Paul Atreides’ visions of the Fremen holy warriors in Dune: Part One, as well as the Caladan Stormcoat worn by Paul and Duke Leto.
The pack also includes additional movie-inspired outfits and a 73-piece Sardaukar-themed base-building set.
Filmic Archive will be available for ₱615.92 ($9.99) across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox.
Funcom is scheduled to showcase the DLC’s visuals during the Xbox Broadcast following its Gamescom announcement.
PC-Console Cross-Play Coming After Launch
One of the biggest announcements for the Dune: Awakening community is the confirmation of PC and console cross-play.
Funcom said cross-play was one of the most requested features following the announcement of the console version. The feature will be added in a post-launch update, although the studio has yet to provide a specific release date.
The game already supports cross-platform features between its supported versions, but the upcoming cross-play functionality will allow PC and console players to play together.
Major Console Update Arrives in September
The September 22 console launch is set to be more than a platform expansion for Dune: Awakening.
Alongside the PlayStation 5 and Xbox versions, Funcom is introducing a full single-player mode, the conclusion of the game’s main story, expanded customization options, and adjustable difficulty settings.
According to Funcom Chief Product Officer and Executive Producer Scott Junior, the console release will also include roughly a year’s worth of PC additions and improvements from day one.
“September marks a major milestone for Dune: Awakening,” Junior said. “Not only is the game coming to PlayStation 5 and XBOX, this release is also a major step forward for the game as we introduce a full single-player mode, wrap up the story, and add an incredible amount of game customization.”
Players purchasing the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition on PlayStation 5 or Xbox can begin playing five days early on September 17. Funcom will also release a physical PlayStation 5 edition on September 22 through its distribution partners, with pre-orders already available at select retailers.
