The Esports World Cup has opened applications for its 2027 EWC Qualifier Program, expanding the official routes through which tournament organizers and local esports communities can connect players to the global competition.
Announced in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on October 20, 2026, the program is part of the Road to EWC and is designed to connect publisher-led leagues, international tournaments, and regional qualifiers with the Esports World Cup. The qualification pathway aims to reach 1.8 million players through more than 400 events in 2027, according to the Esports World Cup.

The program introduces two partner-operated routes: EWC Direct Qualifiers and EWC Satellite Last Chance Qualifiers. Both are intended to bring existing competitions and grassroots events into the Road to EWC while allowing organizers to operate under their own identities.
Two qualification routes
EWC Direct Qualifiers extend the existing connection between established esports tournaments and the Road to EWC. Organizers will continue to operate and fund their competitions, retain local commercial opportunities, and follow EWC and publisher standards. Their events will provide players with an official pathway to the Esports World Cup.
EWC Satellite Last Chance Qualifiers create a route for local communities to organize competitions linked to the Esports World Cup. The Esports Foundation said tournament organizers, federations, associations, cyber cafés, universities, esports venues, and gaming festivals can apply to connect existing competitions or establish new tournaments under their own identities.
Winners of those satellite competitions will earn guaranteed entry into the relevant EWC Last Chance Qualifier tournaments next summer, where they will compete for a place in the EWC Main event. The Esports Foundation will provide accommodation and visa support for winners, according to the announcement.
The satellite route will initially cover Chess, Counter-Strike 2, FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves, and Street Fighter 6. The organization said additional games will be announced later.
All EWC Direct Qualifiers and Satellite Last Chance Qualifiers must operate according to publisher requirements and EWC competitive standards. These include rulesets, anti-cheat measures, officiating, and verified results. The structure gives established tournaments a formal connection to the EWC while creating more entry points for local competitions.
“Road to EWC has shown what is possible when the different pathways across competitive esports connect to one global destination,” said Faisal Bin Homran, chief product officer at the Esports Foundation. He added that bringing more tournaments and communities into the Road to EWC could give players more opportunities to compete locally and give regional esports ecosystems an official role in the pathway to the Esports World Cup.

The Esports World Cup cited its existing Last Chance Qualifiers as an example of the value of additional qualification routes. João “jafonsogv” Vasconcelos advanced through the EA SPORTS FC Last Chance Qualifier before becoming the EWC champion in 2024. The organization said that achievement inspired the creation of the Jafonso Award.
Applications for the 2027 EWC Qualifier Program are open at esportsworldcup.com until December 20, 2026. Approved events must conclude by June 1, 2027. Organizers can request information through EWCDirectQualifier@esportsfoundation.com or EWCSatelliteLCQ@esportsfoundation.com.
Further details on Direct Qualifier partners, participating tournaments, and qualification places will be announced as the Road to EWC 2027 develops. The 2027 EWC Qualifier Program will create more local opportunities for players to begin their competitive journey in their own communities, according to the Esports Foundation.
