HP HyperX OMEN 15 Review: Gaming and Building

Most gaming laptops are judged by their benchmark scores, impressive specifications, and ability to handle the latest AAA games. But at TechBeatPH, we wanted to take things further. For weeks, the HP HyperX OMEN 15 has served as our gaming machine and primary workstation, handling everything from demanding games to developing our own AI-powered digital newsroom.

And believe me, debugging automation workflows can sometimes be more frustrating than fighting hundreds of Tyranids.

Under the Hood: HP HyperX OMEN 15 Specifications

Our review unit is the HP HyperX OMEN 15-gb0059AX, featuring a powerful combination of AMD processing and NVIDIA graphics.

On paper, this combination makes the laptop suitable for gaming, creative work, and demanding productivity applications.

However, specifications are only part of the story. What matters is how useful the machine becomes in everyday life.

Gaming Performance: Three Games, Three Challenges

Path of Exile 2: Beautiful Chaos

Our first gaming adventure was Path of Exile 2.

With detailed environments, complex combat mechanics, and extensive particle effects, this action RPG presents an interesting challenge for modern gaming hardware. The demanding moments occur when enemies, spells, and visual effects compete for processing resources. The RTX 5060 supports modern graphics technologies, including NVIDIA DLSS, which can help balance image quality and performance in compatible games.

However, playing at the laptop’s native 2560 × 1600 resolution is considerably more demanding than 1080p. For this title, maintaining consistent frame pacing is more important than simply maximizing graphics settings. After all, nobody wants to lose a character because their graphics card decided to take a coffee break.

Although sometimes, it’s probably just our character build.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — For the Emperor!

Next came Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.

This game brings spectacular battles, detailed environments, and enormous Tyranid swarms. Unlike lighter competitive titles, Space Marine 2 can place substantial demands on both the processor and graphics card. The Ryzen 7 260 provides eight processing cores, while the RTX 5060 handles the graphical workload.

One consideration is that RTX 5060 laptops can have different graphics power limits, making direct comparisons between models difficult without controlled benchmarks. Finding the right balance between image quality and responsive gameplay remains essential. And honestly, there’s something satisfying about wielding a chainsword after spending hours troubleshooting automation workflows.

At least Tyranids don’t return mysterious webhook errors.

Valorant: Speed Matters

For competitive gaming, we turned to Valorant.

Here, responsiveness and frame delivery matter more than elaborate graphics. The OMEN’s display is rated for refresh rates up to 180Hz, making it potentially useful for fast-paced competitive play.

However, our Windows hardware inspection reported a 60Hz active display mode, so verifying the higher refresh-rate configuration remains important. A faster display can make gameplay feel more responsive when properly configured and supported by sufficient frame rates. Unfortunately, even a 180Hz screen won’t automatically improve your aim.

Believe me, I’ve considered blaming the laptop.

Our gaming evaluation reflects extended use rather than a completed controlled benchmark suite. Verified average FPS and frame-time results will be added separately.

Beyond Gaming: Building Our AI-Powered Newsroom

Gaming represents only half of our experience with the HP HyperX OMEN 15.

For weeks, this machine has also supported our ambitious TechBeatPH AI Newsroom Automation System. We’re developing an interconnected editorial environment using ChatGPT, n8n, Python, Google Sheets, WordPress, and Model Context Protocol integrations. Our objective is straightforward: help a small editorial team become more productive without sacrificing editorial standards. The system is designed to assist with press-release intake, story qualification, assignments, editorial drafting, search engine optimization, and publication preparation. We’re also developing monitoring, error detection, recovery procedures, and quality controls guided by our V1.1 engineering method and Toyota Production System principles.

This isn’t simply asking AI to write an article. It involves workflow development, debugging, testing, databases, multiple applications, and background processes. Much of our AI inference happens through external services, meaning the workstation isn’t running enormous language models entirely on its GPU.

Instead, processor responsiveness, memory availability, storage performance, and system stability become particularly important. Our operational monitoring has identified periods of high memory utilization, making the installed 24GB RAM an area worth evaluating as the project expands. The laptop also supports our content-production environment, including workflows built around DaVinci Resolve.

My Take: Two Jobs, One Gold-Worthy Machine

After weeks of using the HP HyperX OMEN 15 for gaming and newsroom development, its most compelling quality is versatility.

The Ryzen 7 processor, dedicated RTX 5060 graphics, 24GB memory, and fast NVMe storage provide a useful foundation for both entertainment and serious productivity. Of course, it isn’t perfect. The 8GB graphics memory limits larger locally executed AI workloads. Memory demands can increase as our automation environment expands, and gaming performance still needs controlled frame-rate testing.

But at TechBeatPH, we don’t judge technology solely by impressive specifications. We judge it by how useful it becomes in everyday life. For our particular needs, this OMEN brings together two important responsibilities: supporting our digital newsroom and providing an enjoyable gaming platform.

That’s why we’re awarding the HP HyperX OMEN 15 our TechBeatPH GOLD rating for work-and-play versatility.

Not because we’re claiming it’s the fastest gaming laptop available, but because it offers a compelling combination of gaming and productivity capabilities. Sometimes, you need a machine that helps build the newsroom of tomorrow. And sometimes, you just want to pick up a chainsword and save humanity.

Why not both?
