BYD Cars Philippines celebrated the second anniversary of the Sealion 6 DM-i by bringing together more than 60 owners for an exclusive drive-in cinema experience at Ayala Malls Trinoma, highlighting the continued growth of one of the country’s largest electric vehicle communities.
The celebration began with a multi-point convoy across Luzon, with participants gathering from BYD Manila Bay, BYD Sta. Rosa, and Shell Mobility Mexico Southbound, home to an ACMobility charging station, before converging in Quezon City for the anniversary event.
Sealion 6 community continues to grow
What started as an ownership group has evolved into one of the Philippines’ most active automotive communities. The BYD Sealion 6 Facebook community now has more than 25,000 members, while the owners’ club regularly organizes meetups, road trips, and knowledge-sharing sessions centered on electrified mobility.
“Our BYD Sealion 6 owners are the true heartbeat of the brand,” said Bob Palanca, Managing Director of BYD Cars Philippines. “Every story they share, every new driver they welcome into the fold, and every kilometer they put on their Sealion 6 DM-i is a testament to the trust they’ve placed in us.”
Palanca added that BYD remains committed to supporting owners through reliable after-sales service as the community continues to expand.
The hybrid SUV that helped popularize electrified driving
Launched in 2024, the Sealion 6 DM-i introduced BYD’s Super DM-i plug-in hybrid technology to the Philippine market, offering drivers a practical alternative to conventional gasoline vehicles without the range anxiety commonly associated with full electric cars.
The hybrid SUV delivers a combined driving range of over 1,000 kilometers on a full battery charge and fuel tank, making it one of the brand’s most accessible electrified models for long-distance travel.
For owner Seth Tullao, the numbers speak for themselves. Since purchasing his Sealion 6 DM-i in 2024, he has driven more than 77,000 kilometers using an all-stock vehicle.
Safety, efficiency, and everyday practicality
Beyond its hybrid powertrain, the Sealion 6 DM-i has built its reputation around real-world usability.
Key highlights include over 1,000 km of combined driving range, the BYD Super DM-i plug-in hybrid system, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality for powering external devices, and 5-star safety ratings from both ANCAP and Euro NCAP.
The model was also recognized as the 2025 Car of the Year by the Philippine EV Community, further cementing its position in the local electrified vehicle segment.
A celebration beyond cars
The anniversary event extended beyond automotive culture through partnerships with the Cultural Center of the Philippines, which showcased Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival as part of the evening program. McDonald’s and Taters also joined as event partners, turning the gathering into a community celebration for owners and their families.
“Two years ago, we started with a handful of owners who simply wanted a place to share their experience with the Sealion 6 DM-i,” said Edward Salas, President of the BYD Sealion 6 Club. “Today, we’re a much larger community that is bound by a shared passion for electrified driving.”
As BYD continues expanding its lineup in the Philippines, the company says the Sealion 6 community remains central to its mission of accelerating the country’s transition toward electrified mobility.
