Xiaomi EV has introduced the SkyNomad series, its second electric vehicle lineup after the SU7 and YU7. Unlike Xiaomi’s performance-oriented models, the new series targets buyers looking for a more versatile SUV that emphasizes cabin flexibility, passenger comfort, and everyday usability.
The company describes the SkyNomad as an “intelligent, reconfigurable, large-space SUV”, positioning it for families and professionals who use their vehicles for more than commuting.
Xiaomi expands beyond performance-focused EVs
Since entering the electric vehicle market, Xiaomi has largely focused on models aimed at driving enthusiasts. The Xiaomi SU7 sedan and YU7 SUV were marketed as vehicles built around the driver’s experience.
SkyNomad takes a different approach.
Instead of prioritizing driving dynamics alone, Xiaomi says the new lineup is designed around how occupants spend time inside the vehicle—whether commuting, working remotely, traveling with family, or using the cabin as a temporary living space.
The announcement represents another step in Xiaomi’s strategy to broaden its electric vehicle portfolio and reach a wider range of consumers.
Built on the new Kunlun Architecture
At the center of the SkyNomad series is Kunlun Architecture, Xiaomi’s newly developed EV platform that enables a more adaptable interior layout.
According to Xiaomi, the platform features a flat-floor cabin design, a long-track adjustable seating system, multiple cabin configurations, AI-powered interior controls, and integration with the company’s smart ecosystem.
Rather than simply increasing passenger capacity, Xiaomi says the platform allows the cabin to transition between different use cases. Depending on the situation, the interior can function as a conventional passenger cabin, a mobile workspace, a lounge area, or a family activity space while parked.
The company added that Kunlun Architecture has been in development since early 2023, with a focus on supporting configurable interior layouts.
Xiaomi targets modern families and professionals
According to Xiaomi, changing consumer behavior played a key role in the development of the SkyNomad series.
While many SUVs already offer spacious cabins and three-row seating, Xiaomi argues that buyers are increasingly looking for vehicles that can adapt to different daily routines rather than simply providing more interior space.
The SkyNomad is designed for users who rely on a single vehicle for multiple purposes, including daily commuting, family road trips, working from the car, weekend outdoor activities, and transporting pets.
Rather than separating business and family use, Xiaomi says the vehicle is built to accommodate both throughout the day.
Another step in Xiaomi’s EV expansion
The SkyNomad announcement signals Xiaomi’s continued push into China’s increasingly competitive electric vehicle market.
By complementing the driver-focused SU7 and YU7 with a cabin-centric SUV series, Xiaomi is broadening its product strategy to address a wider range of mobility needs. More details—including specifications, pricing, and launch timing—are expected to be announced at a later date.
