PH Int’l Hot Air Balloon Fiesta Showcases 2026 Special Balloons, Drone Races

The 26th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta (PIHABF) once again turns New Clark City into the country’s largest aviation showcase, headlined by 22 special-shaped hot air balloons and a mix of competitive air sports and entertainment events.

More than a weekend spectacle, the annual gathering strengthens Clark’s position as a hub for aviation tourism while promoting careers and innovation within the Philippine aviation industry.

22 Special-Shaped Balloons Headline Dawn Mass Ascension

A total of 22 special-shaped hot air balloons from different countries lift off during the traditional dawn mass ascension, drawing thousands of spectators to the festival grounds. From novelty designs to character-inspired inflatables, the lineup transforms the early morning sky into a moving display of color.

In the Hare and Hound hot air balloon competition, Thomas Grubbstrom of Sweden claims the top spot, followed by Joao Justo of Brazil and Coen Heuvel of The Netherlands. The event tests pilots’ navigation and precision, underscoring the Fiesta’s competitive edge beyond its visual appeal.

Aviation Career Talks Spotlight the Future of Filipino Aviators

The Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta also places strong emphasis on aviation education. Industry professionals lead a series of career talks aimed at aspiring pilots, air traffic controllers, and aviation specialists.

Captain Frank Desiderio delivers a session titled “The Future of Filipino Aviators,” alongside speakers from air traffic management, flight dispatch, aircraft maintenance, and cabin crew sectors. The discussions outline the pathways available in commercial aviation and regulatory bodies such as the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

Event Director Capt. Joy Roa emphasizes the broader mission of the festival. “This Fiesta is not just about balloons filling the sky,” Roa says. “It is about inspiring dreams, supporting the next generation of Filipino aviators, and bringing families together.”

Drone Racing, Paragliding, and Motorsport Expand the Festival Format

This year’s program integrates high-speed competitions that appeal to a younger and more tech-oriented audience.

Team Legit wins the Paragliding Accuracy Competition, while Joey Galao tops the Singles category. Meanwhile, the FPV Drone Race Competition features standout performances from racers representing South Korea, China, and Hong Kong, reflecting the rapid growth of drone racing in Asia.

A car showcase and drifting exhibition add a motorsport dimension, turning the event into a multi-sector outdoor festival rather than a purely aviation-centric gathering.

Night Glow, Concert, and Fireworks Cap the Celebration

The Hot Air Balloon Night Glow and Concert closes the festival with illuminated balloons synchronized to music, followed by live performances and a fireworks display over Clark. Live performances by P!xie, KO Jones, Sound of Hera, Project March, Asa, and Barabas energized the crowd.

This segment continues to be one of the event’s most anticipated highlights, blending aviation visuals with large-scale entertainment production.

Community Outreach Anchors the “Joy of Flying” Advocacy

The organizing committee also extends invitations to two orphanages, welcoming 72 children and guardians as special guests. For many of them, it marks their first time witnessing hot air balloons and aerobatic displays up close.

Through initiatives like these, the Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta reinforces its long-standing advocacy of making aviation accessible while inspiring future Filipino aviators.

With expanded competitions, international participation, and strong public turnout, the 2026 edition shows how the Fiesta continues to evolve—positioning New Clark City as a consistent venue for aviation events, air sports, and aerospace awareness in the Philippines.
