Smart Communications is expanding its enterprise security offerings with GSMA-certified SIM Swap and Device Swap APIs, giving Philippine businesses additional network-level signals they can use to detect potential account takeovers and suspicious transactions.
The APIs are part of SmartSafe NetIdentity, the latest solution under the SmartSafe suite of PLDT Enterprise. The certification builds on Smart’s previous GSMA certifications for its Number Verification API with Silent Authentication and RoamStatus API, expanding the telco’s portfolio of standardized tools for digital identity and fraud management.
SmartSafe NetIdentity looks beyond OTP authentication
One-time passwords (OTPs) remain a common layer of digital authentication, but businesses increasingly need additional signals to determine whether a login or transaction is legitimate.
SmartSafe NetIdentity addresses this by checking changes associated with the mobile number being used. Its SIM Swap API can identify recent SIM replacement activity, while the Device Swap API can determine whether a SIM has recently been moved to a different physical device.
These signals can help businesses identify situations that may warrant additional verification before allowing a potentially sensitive action to proceed.
For example, a recently swapped SIM or a sudden change in the device associated with a customer’s mobile number could be treated as a risk indicator during account logins, payments, or other high-value transactions.

Smart was previously certified for Number Verification with Silent Authentication and RoamStatus, giving enterprises additional ways to verify mobile numbers and use network information in digital services.
With the SIM Swap and Device Swap certifications, Smart is adding more network-level signals focused specifically on identity and fraud risks.
