Smart Omega finally got on the board in MPL Philippines Season 18, stunning Team Falcons PH, 2-1, on a rainy Saturday at the Victoria Sports Tower in Quezon City.
A late backdoor play in Game 1 and a dominant Game 3 allowed the Barangay to overcome Falcons and secure its first match victory of the season.
Smart Omega pulled off a patient Game 1 victory after Dean “Raizen” Sumagui found an opening for a split push in the 21st minute. With Wilburt “Cull” Salinda’s Melissa helping lure Team Falcons PH toward the Lord, John “Perkziva” Sumawan’s Gloo kept Marco “SuperMarco” Requitiano’s Brody occupied and prevented him from contesting the objective.
That gave Raizen enough time to reach Falcons’ base with Fanny and complete the backdoor push, handing Omega the opening game.
Falcons responded immediately in Game 2, however, producing one of the most dominant games of their Season 18 campaign. The Green Falcons finished with a staggering 16-1 kill advantage in under 11 minutes. Salic “Hadji” Imam led the demolition on Mathilda, finishing with three kills and 10 assists without dying once.
The Falcons repeatedly targeted Smart Omega’s damage dealers, leaving Raizen’s Fredrinn with a game-high five deaths while Cull and Louis “Louis” Ariola struggled to make an impact against SuperMarco and David “Flap” Canon.
Smart Omega answered in Game 3 with another commanding performance, taking down Falcons 13-3 in just 14 minutes. The Barangay’s Hirara-Angela combination proved too difficult for Falcons to handle, with Raizen leading all players at 5/1/6 while Perkziva added a 3/0/9 performance.
Omega also controlled the major objectives throughout the game, giving Falcons little room to build another comeback after their Game 2 demolition.
The upset moves Smart Omega to 1-1 in the standings, while Team Falcons PH falls to 2-1.
Omega will face undefeated ONIC Philippines on Sunday to close out Week 2, while Falcons will look to bounce back against winless Twisted Minds PH.
Elsewhere, TNC Pro Team also improved to 2-1 after taking down AP.Bren in a three-game battle. Justine “Zaida” Palma continued his strong individual campaign, posting a combined 9/4/15 KDA across the series as the Phoenixes secured their second match victory.
The result gives TNC consecutive wins after the team recovered from its opening-day loss to Team Falcons PH.
Defending champion Team Liquid PH, meanwhile, continued its resurgence with a 2-0 victory over Aurora Gaming PH. The Cavalry has now won three consecutive matches after dropping its Season 18 opener against Team Falcons PH.
Veteran roamer Jaypee “Jaypee” dela Cruz was the standout performer, earning MVP honors in both games while finishing the series with a combined 2/5/25 KDA. Jaypee’s 27 total kills and assists represented nearly 83% kill participation, underlining his impact across Liquid’s two-game sweep.
The defending champions now move to 3-1 in the MPL PH Season 18 standings, while Aurora remains winless at 0-3.
