Maya wallet cardholders can now add their physical and virtual Visa cards to Google Wallet and use Google Pay, expanding the mobile payment options available to Maya customers in the Philippines.
The rollout covers all Maya Visa wallet cards, alongside the platform’s existing Google Pay support for Maya Visa credit cards. Maya previously enabled Google Wallet and Google Pay for its credit cardholders in November 2025.
Maya wallet cards join Google Pay
With the latest rollout, Maya Visa wallet cardholders can use Google Pay for contactless purchases at supported merchants, as well as payments in places such as public transport and tourist destinations.
Users can add eligible physical or virtual Maya Visa cards to Google Wallet and use compatible phones and devices to make payments without presenting the physical card.
The move also gives merchants another way to accept digital payments as mobile wallets become more common among consumers.
Visa tokenization keeps card details private
Google Pay transactions for Maya cards use Visa’s tokenization technology to replace the actual card number with a unique digital token.
Instead of sharing the underlying card details with merchants or storing the actual card number on the device, the token is used to facilitate the transaction.
Visa says tokenization can help reduce fraud by limiting exposure of customers’ real account information during digital payments.
Mobile payments continue to gain ground in Asia
The expansion comes as consumers across Asia Pacific increasingly use smartphones and other connected devices for payments.
According to Visa data cited by the companies, more than 71% of consumers in the region prefer using mobile or smart devices for in-store or online transactions.
Travel is another potential use case for digital cards. Visa research found that 97% of travelers in Asia Pacific want to use credit, debit, or prepaid cards when traveling, while only 17% plan to bring cash.
For Maya users, the Google Pay integration therefore extends an existing digital banking ecosystem into another everyday payment method, particularly for contactless transactions.
Maya expands its digital payment options
The latest rollout follows Maya’s earlier Google Pay integration for credit cardholders and brings its wallet cards into the same mobile payment ecosystem.
For users who already rely on their phones for banking, transportation, shopping, and other everyday transactions, being able to use a Maya Visa wallet card through Google Pay removes the need to carry the physical card for supported contactless payments.
The update also adds another layer to Maya and Visa’s push toward wider digital and contactless payment adoption in the Philippines.
