Samsung P7 Portable SSD brings USB4 speeds, up to 8TB storage to PH

Samsung has unveiled its new P Series portable SSDs, headlined by the Samsung P7, at Gamescom 2026 in Cologne, Germany, bringing USB4 connectivity, transfer speeds of up to 4,000MB/s, and capacities reaching 8TB.

The P7 is positioned as a high-performance portable storage option for increasingly demanding workloads, including ultra-high-resolution video, AI content creation, large game installations, and direct recording.

The series will roll out globally starting August 31, with Samsung P7 availability in the Philippines set for early November through Samsung’s official stores on Lazada and Shopee.

Samsung P7 doubles performance with USB4

The P7 uses USB4 connectivity to deliver sequential speeds of up to 4,000MB/s, roughly doubling the performance of Samsung’s previous generation of portable SSDs, according to the company.

Its high bandwidth is designed for users working with large files and demanding workloads, including high-resolution video production and AI-generated content. Samsung also highlights support for 12K direct recording, giving creators a portable storage option for handling extremely high-resolution footage.

The P7 is designed to work with a broad range of host devices, including desktops and laptops, smartphones, gaming consoles, and cameras. This compatibility makes the drive suitable for both professional workflows and everyday storage, particularly for users moving large amounts of data between different devices.

Up to 8TB of portable storage

The Samsung P7 will be offered in 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB capacities.

The 8TB model is particularly notable as Samsung positions it as the world’s first 8TB USB4 portable SSD, combining high-capacity storage with the higher bandwidth of the newer connectivity standard.

That capacity can be useful for users managing large libraries of 4K and higher-resolution video, extensive game collections, and other data-heavy workloads without relying exclusively on internal storage.

Built for life on the move

Beyond performance, Samsung has also designed the P7 for portable use.

The SSD has completed 2-meter drop testing, alongside shock and vibration durability testing. These measures are intended to provide additional protection for stored data when the drive is being carried between locations or used in mobile environments.

The combination of compact portability, high capacity, and USB4 connectivity makes the P7 particularly relevant for creators and users who regularly work across multiple devices.

Samsung P7 Philippines availability

The Samsung P7 series began its global rollout on August 31, 2026, but Filipino consumers will have to wait a little longer.

Samsung says the P7 will arrive in the Philippines in early November 2026, with sales available through its official stores on Lazada and Shopee. However, they has yet to disclose Philippine pricing for the different P7 capacities.

For now, the P7 gives Samsung a new high-end option in the portable SSD market as USB4 adoption expands, particularly among creators, gamers, and professionals handling increasingly large files.
