UnionDigital Bank, Chubb Philippines Expand Embedded Insurance Access for Filipinos

UnionDigital Bank is expanding its digital banking ecosystem through a new partnership with Chubb Philippines, integrating insurance products directly into its mobile app. The initiative aims to address the country’s insurance gap by making financial protection more accessible to underserved and unbanked Filipinos.

The move comes as financial inclusion remains a challenge in the Philippines, where nearly half of Filipino adults remain uninsured according to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) data. The partnership reflects the growing push toward embedded finance, where insurance and banking services are bundled into digital platforms.

Addressing the Philippines’ Insurance Protection Gap

The Philippines continues to face a significant protection gap, with millions of individuals lacking access to basic insurance coverage. Rising healthcare costs and limited emergency savings leave many households financially vulnerable during unforeseen events.

BSP’s Financial Inclusion Survey highlights that 48% of Filipino adults remain uninsured, underscoring the demand for more accessible protection products integrated into everyday financial services.

Insurance Products Embedded in the UD App

Under the partnership, Chubb’s insurance offerings will be integrated into the UnionDigital Bank app, allowing users to access coverage within their digital banking experience.

The initial rollout includes Loan Protect Insurance, which is automatically included for eligible UnionDigital Bank loan borrowers at no extra cost for the first three months. It covers outstanding loan balances in cases of death, disability, or illness.

Kaya Protect Insurance (coming soon) will provide personal accident and accidental death coverage of up to ₱150,000 and will be activated by maintaining a minimum ₱100 savings balance.

These products are designed to link financial protection with everyday banking activity, particularly for first-time and underserved users, reinforcing UnionDigital Bank’s push to embed insurance access directly into its digital financial ecosystem.

Strengthening Financial Resilience Through Embedded Finance

UnionDigital Bank positions the initiative as part of its broader push to improve financial resilience among Filipinos. By integrating insurance into digital banking, the bank reduces traditional barriers such as paperwork, awareness gaps, and separate onboarding processes.

Chubb Philippines supports the rollout by providing underwriting and product development expertise, aligning with its broader strategy to expand access to insurance in emerging markets.

Industry Shift Toward Digital-First Insurance Solutions

The partnership reflects a wider shift in the Philippine financial sector toward embedded finance, where insurance, lending, and savings tools are delivered within unified digital platforms.

As more Filipinos adopt digital banking, insurers and fintech firms are increasingly collaborating to close coverage gaps and improve financial security through accessible, app-based solutions.

With the integration of Chubb insurance products into the UD app, UnionDigital Bank strengthens its position in the digital banking space while expanding access to financial protection tools.

The initiative highlights a growing trend in the Philippines’ fintech landscape—combining banking and insurance services to support long-term financial stability for everyday users.
