Smart Omega snaps two-season playoff drought with win vs. Falcons

The Barangay thrived back in MPL Philippines Season 14. But by 2025, Smart Omega saw key figures leave, roster changes pile up, and their playoff hopes fade into obscurity.

This season, however, the Barangay rebuilt its foundation—and finally earned its return to the postseason.

Smart Omega ended their two-season playoff drought after defeating Team Falcons PH, 2-1, on Saturday to secure a spot in the MPL Philippines Season 17 playoffs.

Match MVP Kenneth “Netskie” Barro led Omega’s bounce-back effort after a Game 2 collapse, helping the team secure its crucial sixth win of the season. The gold laner averaged 2.66 kills, 0.66 deaths, and 5.33 assists across the three-game series, highlighted by a six-kill, six-assist performance in Game 3.

Coach Hans “Wuraaaah” Solano credited the victory to lessons learned from their previous loss against Team Liquid PH.

“Marami kaming nakita sa game naming against Team Liquid PH na natutunan namin. Ngayong araw, in-execute namin at maganda ang kinalabasan,” Wuraaaah said in the post-match interview.

Assistant coach Lemuel “Lembot” Lucban, the lone remaining member from Omega’s Season 14 playoff roster, said the team remains focused on taking things one series at a time.

“Palaging one game at a time lang. Kumbaga, ibigay namin parati ang best namin manalo o matalo,” Lembot shared.

John “Perkziva” Sumawan’s Marceline led the charge in Game 1, assisting all eight of Smart Omega’s kills as the team finished with zero deaths while shutting down Michael “Kyle” Sayson’s impact.

Team Falcons answered back in Game 2 behind a game-changing setup from Rowgien “Owgwen” Unigo’s Kalea, forcing Omega into a disastrous fight near the Lord area. Kyle also bounced back with a 5/1/4 performance on Suyou.

Omega clinched the series in Game 3 despite fighting at a numbers disadvantage in a 4v5 clash. Perkziva’s Gatotkaca absorbed all five Falcons ultimates before going down, creating an opening for the rest of Omega to clean up the fight one by one.

The final clash forced David Charles “Flap” Canon into a desperate base defense, but it was not enough to stop Omega from securing the win.

Elsewhere, Twisted Minds PH (5-7) rallied from behind in both games against AP.Bren (3-9) to move closer to a playoff berth. Rookie Tracy “Tracyy” Damasco once again stepped up for the Minds, averaging 1.0 kills, 3.5 deaths, and 11.5 assists across the series.

League leaders Team Liquid PH (12-1), meanwhile, proved too much for TNC Pro Team (2-10), completing another dominant sweep. Karl Gabriel “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno continued his stellar campaign despite already holding the record for most minutes played in MPL PH history, averaging 11 kills, 0.5 deaths, and three assists across just 24 combined minutes.

Twisted Minds will next look to secure their playoff spot against a Falcons squad still chasing the top seed. Meanwhile, Aurora Gaming (3-8) face a crucial showdown against ONIC Philippines (7-4), with the reigning M7 world champions fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive.
