Netflix, HYBE Announce Global BTS Comeback Live Event, Documentary
Netflix and HYBE reveal a global BTS comeback live event streaming from Seoul alongside a feature-length documentary chronicling the group’s reunion after military service.
Titled BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG, the live special will stream exclusively on Netflix on March 21, at 8:00 p.m. KST, broadcasting from Gwanghwamun in Seoul. The performance coincides with the release of BTS’ upcoming studio album, ARIRANG.
The announcement comes alongside confirmation of BTS: THE RETURN, a documentary film directed by Bao Nguyen, which will premiere on Netflix on March 27.
Global Livestream Marks BTS’ First Reunion Performance
BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG will feature RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook performing together on a global stage for the first time since their enlistment period.
Netflix and HYBE described the live broadcast as a milestone event, noting that it will be Netflix’s first-ever global live event streamed from Korea. The performance will be directed by Hamish Hamilton and produced by Done + Dusted, with executive production led by HYBE and BIGHIT MUSIC.
The live special follows the announcement of BTS’ fifth studio album, ARIRANG, which the group has described as a reflective project centered on identity, roots, and renewal. Following the album’s release, BTS is scheduled to embark on the ARIRANG World Tour (2026–2027), spanning 34 regions and 82 shows across Asia, the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East.
Netflix confirmed the live event will be ticketed, with additional details to be released at a later date.
Documentary Explores BTS’ Return and Creative Reconnection
Premiering six days after the live performance, BTS: THE RETURN documents the group’s reunion process as they return to the studio following years of separation.
The film follows BTS as the members regroup in Los Angeles to create new music while reflecting on their individual growth and shared history. The documentary traces their transition from global superstardom to military service and back into a collective creative space shaped by time apart.
The film features behind-the-scenes access to recording sessions, conversations, and moments of uncertainty as BTS navigates how to move forward without distancing themselves from their past. Producers include This Machine, HYBE, and EAST Films.
Netflix describes the documentary as an intimate portrait of resilience, reinvention, and brotherhood, positioning it as a companion piece to the group’s public-facing comeback.
Expansion of Netflix’s Global Live Programming
The BTS comeback live special continues Netflix’s expansion into large-scale live programming. Recent live offerings include sports and entertainment broadcasts such as WWE Raw, NFL Christmas Gameday, and major boxing events. The company has also confirmed upcoming live coverage of MLB games and the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
With BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG, Netflix adds a major music event to its growing live slate, while reinforcing Korea’s role as a global hub for large-scale entertainment productions.
