HEROIC exits Dota 2, cites financial struggles

HEROIC has officially announced its departure from the competitive Dota 2 scene, ending a two-year run that saw the organization rise as one of South America’s most consistent teams.

In a statement posted on social media, HEROIC confirmed that it will step away from Dota 2 operations, citing long-term sustainability issues despite competitive success and growing support.

“Despite competitive success, a growing fanbase, and significant commercial efforts, the financial results ultimately fell short,” the organization said.

Chief Gaming Officer Robin “Bumblebee” Nymann echoed the same sentiment, emphasizing that the decision was purely financial.

“The unfortunate reality is that Dota is a tough game to commercialise… the only reason we’ve made this decision is financial,” Nymann shared.

A sudden exit amid key season stretch

HEROIC’s departure comes at a crucial point in the competitive calendar, with major events like the Esports World Cup and The International 2026 approaching.

The timing adds weight to the decision, as the organization exits without making a final push in tournaments where it had been considered a strong contender.

The move also reflects broader concerns around the Dota 2 esports ecosystem, where multiple organizations have struggled to sustain operations due to limited monetization opportunities.

Roster to continue under new banner

Despite the exit, HEROIC confirmed that its now former roster will remain intact and continue competing together while searching for a new organization.

The lineup includes:

  • Yuma “Yuma” Langlet
  • Santiago “TaiLung” Agüero
  • Adrián “Wisper” Dobles
  • Thiago “Thiolicor” Cordeiro
  • Matheus “KJ” Diniz

Reports indicate that the team will continue participating in upcoming events such as DreamLeague Season 29 under a temporary banner.

End of a short but impactful run

HEROIC entered Dota 2 in 2024 and quickly became a key force in South America, earning multiple deep tournament finishes and even securing international titles.

The organization’s exit leaves a noticeable gap in the region, which has already seen several teams step away from the title in recent years due to similar financial challenges.

For now, HEROIC’s departure highlights a continuing issue in Dota 2 esports: strong results alone are not always enough to guarantee long-term stability.
