BPI Debit Mastercard Now Works With Google Pay for Faster Android Payments

BPI Debit Mastercard holders can now use their Android phones for contactless and online payments by adding their cards to Google Wallet, giving customers another way to pay without carrying a physical card.

The feature, which rolled out on April 15, allows eligible BPI customers with NFC-enabled Android devices to link their Debit Mastercard to Google Wallet and use Google Pay at participating merchants, apps, and websites.

The addition expands BPI’s existing digital payment options, which include physical cards and QR payments through the BPI app.

How Google Pay works with BPI Debit Mastercard

Once a BPI Debit Mastercard is added to Google Wallet, users can use their Android devices at stores with compatible contactless payment terminals. Google Pay can also be selected at checkout on supported mobile apps and websites, giving users a digital payment option beyond physical stores.

To add a BPI Debit Mastercard to Google Wallet, users need to open the Google Wallet app on an NFC-enabled Android phone, select Add a card and choose Payment card, then scan the card using the phone’s camera or enter its details manually. After accepting the Google Pay and BPI terms and conditions, users must complete card verification through an SMS One-Time Password (OTP).

Once verified, the card can be used with Google Pay for eligible transactions.

The feature is designed to make everyday transactions more convenient, particularly for users who regularly use their smartphones for payments.

Card details stay protected during transactions

Google Pay also adds a layer of security by preventing a user’s actual card number from being shared with merchants during transactions.

BPI continues to remind customers that digital payment convenience should be paired with basic account security. Users should never share their OTPs, PINs, passwords, CVVs, or other account credentials, even with individuals claiming to represent the bank.

The bank also emphasizes that legitimate BPI representatives will not request these sensitive details.

Another option for BPI’s digital payments

Google Pay joins BPI’s existing payment methods as the bank expands the ways customers can use their accounts for everyday transactions.

For Android users, adding a BPI Debit Mastercard to Google Wallet means a compatible smartphone can serve as an additional payment method for purchases ranging from in-store transactions to supported online checkouts.

As mobile wallets become more common, integrations such as Google Pay give banks another way to connect traditional debit cards with the growing number of digital payment experiences used by Filipino consumers.
