LG Electronics (LG) announced that its InstaView refrigerator has surpassed 5.3 million units in cumulative global sales, marking the 10th anniversary of the appliance’s debut in 2016.
Known for its signature “Knock Twice, See Inside” feature, the refrigerator remains one of LG’s flagship kitchen innovations, combining convenience, energy efficiency, and modern design.
LG marks a decade of InstaView innovation
Since its launch in 2016, LG said it has sold approximately 5.3 million InstaView refrigerators, averaging roughly one unit sold every minute over the past decade.
According to the company, North America remains the largest market for the product, accounting for about 30% of cumulative global sales.
Demand has also continued to grow across Europe, where consumers prioritize energy efficiency and food preservation, while sales have steadily increased in Asia and Latin America amid rising interest in premium home appliances.
“Knock Twice, See Inside” changed refrigerator design

The InstaView feature lets users illuminate the refrigerator’s transparent glass panel with two knocks, allowing them to view the contents without opening the door.
According to LG Electronics, the design helps reduce unnecessary cold air loss from frequent door openings while providing a more convenient way to check stored food.
Over the years, the refrigerator has received multiple international design recognitions, including the Red Dot Design Award, iF Design Award, International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA), and CES Innovation Award.
Customer preferences evolve beyond functionality
Based on LG’s analysis of customer reviews worldwide, consumer appreciation for the InstaView refrigerator has shifted over the past decade.

While early feedback focused on the convenience of viewing food without opening the refrigerator and reducing cold air loss, more recent reviews increasingly highlight the appliance’s premium aesthetics and the overall kitchen experience it provides.
LG said the changing feedback reflects how the product has evolved from a functional innovation into a lifestyle-focused appliance.
The company added that it plans to continue advancing its refrigerator lineup by combining AI capabilities with food preservation and refrigeration technologies to further improve the kitchen experience.
