Esports Foundation Postpones Inaugural ENC to November 2027

The inaugural Esports Nations Cup (ENC) will no longer take place in November 2026, with the Esports Foundation (EF) moving the Riyadh-based international tournament to November 2027.

EF said the decision followed ongoing evaluations of certainty and stability surrounding the wider regional situation. Given the event’s planned international scale, the foundation opted to delay the competition rather than proceed under uncertain conditions.

The ENC is expected to feature national teams representing more than 100 countries and territories, making the postponement one of the biggest changes to the international esports calendar.

Regional stability drives ENC postponement

EF described the move as a precaution tied to the tournament’s unprecedented international scale.

“Given ENC’s unprecedented international scale and the uncertainty created by the wider regional situation, EF believes moving the inaugural competition to November 2027 is the responsible decision,” EF said

The foundation also clarified that the decision does not reflect concerns about Saudi Arabia’s ability to host major events. Domestic and regional sporting and entertainment events in the country are continuing as planned.

For the ENC, however, EF said the priority is providing national teams, publishers, partners, and fans with greater certainty around the conditions surrounding the tournament.

Riyadh remains the host city

Despite the change in schedule, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia remains the designated host city for the inaugural ENC.

EF also confirmed that the tournament’s financial commitments remain in place. Funding under the ENC Development Fund will continue to flow to National Team Partners according to the existing schedule.

That means the postponement does not represent a pause in the broader development program supporting the national teams and ecosystems being built around the competition.

Meeting its ambitions

The ENC was envisioned as a multi-title national-team competition, effectively providing a nation-versus-nation counterpart to the club-focused Esports World Cup.

Moving the tournament by a full year gives EF additional time to work through the competitive and operational framework behind the event.

Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports Foundation, said the postponement was made to ensure the inaugural competition can be delivered under the conditions and standards expected by its participants and partners.

“We owe them an inaugural ENC delivered under the right conditions and at the level this idea deserves,” Reichert added.

Development work will continue through 2027

Rather than putting the project on hold, EF said it will use the additional time to refine the ENC’s competitive roadmap, qualification frameworks, and publisher integration protocols.

The foundation will also consult with National Team Partners and game publishers in the coming weeks to help transition the tournament into the revised 2027 calendar.

Reichert added that EF will continue investing in National Team Partners and developing the national esports ecosystems surrounding the competition.
