TCL has introduced Super-QD MiniLED (SQD-MiniLED), a new display technology that combines upgraded Mini LED backlighting with enhanced quantum dot color performance to improve brightness, contrast, and color accuracy in premium televisions.
Rather than serving as a simple branding refresh, TCL says SQD-MiniLED represents the company’s latest generation of display technology as demand for larger, higher-quality TVs continues to grow worldwide.
TCL builds on its Mini LED leadership
The introduction of SQD-MiniLED follows TCL Electronics’ strong performance in the global TV market.
According to market research firm Omdia, TCL ranked No. 1 worldwide in 75-inch-and-larger TV shipments in 2025, No. 1 globally in Mini LED TV shipments in 2025, and No. 1 in Google TV shipments from 2021 to 2025.
The company says the new technology reflects its continued investment in making advanced display technologies more accessible while enhancing the viewing experience across its TV lineup.
Three core technologies power SQD-MiniLED
TCL Electronics’s latest SQD-MiniLED display platform combines advances in backlighting, color reproduction, and light filtering.
The first upgrade, Precise Dimming, enhances Mini LED backlighting through upgraded light-emitting chips, next-generation micro-lens technology, reduced halo effects, a Micro-OD display design, and advanced light control algorithms.
According to TCL, these improvements deliver higher brightness, better contrast, deeper black levels, smoother motion handling, and slimmer TV designs.
SQD-MiniLED also introduces Super QLED, which TCL says provides a 33% wider color gamut, 17% higher color purity, and a 45% improvement in blue light energy efficiency. The company says these enhancements produce richer colors while offering a more comfortable long-term viewing experience.
The third component is TCL’s Ultra Color Filter, developed over five years using refined materials and manufacturing techniques. According to TCL, the filter uses particles measuring less than five nanometers to reduce color impurities, enabling televisions to reproduce colors more accurately across a wide range of content.
X11L becomes TCL’s first SQD-MiniLED flagship TV
Leading the new lineup is the TCL X11L, which the company describes as the world’s first flagship television built on SQD-MiniLED technology.
The TV was recognized during CES 2026, receiving the Innovative Display Technology Gold Award at the GTB Awards, an industry recognition supported by International Data Group (IDG) and IDC.
While TCL has yet to announce additional models featuring SQD-MiniLED, the technology is expected to serve as the foundation for the company’s next generation of premium televisions.
Preparing for the next generation of premium TVs
As manufacturers continue competing in the premium TV segment through larger screen sizes and improved picture quality, TCL is positioning SQD-MiniLED as the next evolution of its Mini LED display technology.
By combining more precise backlight control with enhanced quantum dot color performance and improved color filtering, TCL aims to deliver better contrast, more accurate colors, and a more immersive viewing experience for future premium TV models.
