LTFRB Taps Maya for Digital Fuel Subsidy Distribution to PUV Drivers

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has partnered with Maya to digitally distribute fuel subsidies to eligible public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators, supporting government efforts to deliver assistance more efficiently amid rising fuel costs.

The move comes as fuel prices remain volatile due to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, prompting the government to strengthen support measures for the transport sector.

Fuel subsidies now available through Maya

Under the government’s Fuel Subsidy Program, qualified beneficiaries can receive their assistance directly through Maya. The digital channel complements existing government disbursement methods and reduces the need for manual payout processes.

The program covers several transport sectors, including public utility jeepneys (PUJs), UV Express units, taxis, and minibuses.

Maya confirmed that it has already completed the first batch of fuel subsidy disbursements to beneficiaries, supporting the government’s push toward faster, more efficient, and digitally enabled financial assistance delivery for transport operators.

Government continues beneficiary validation

While Maya facilitates the digital release of funds, beneficiary identification and validation remain under the supervision of government agencies, particularly the LTFRB.

The arrangement aims to ensure that assistance reaches qualified drivers and operators while maintaining transparency in the distribution process.

LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said digital disbursement helps make government assistance more accessible while supporting broader public sector modernization efforts.

Digital payouts support financial inclusion

Beyond faster fund distribution, the partnership also aligns with the government’s push toward greater digital financial adoption.

According to Maya, beneficiaries who receive assistance through the platform gain access to digital financial services such as savings, bills payment, credit, insurance, and cashless transactions.

This approach allows fuel subsidy recipients to use their accounts beyond government aid, potentially expanding financial inclusion among transport workers who may have limited access to formal financial services.

Digital government services continue to expand

The LTFRB-Maya partnership reflects a broader shift toward digital government disbursement programs across the Philippines. Agencies are increasingly adopting digital payment channels to improve the speed, efficiency, and accessibility of public assistance.

The collaboration also builds on previous initiatives between Maya and the transport sector. During the pandemic, Maya supported earlier LTFRB fuel subsidy distributions and has since expanded its role in transport-related payments.

Today, the platform also processes digital payments for services such as the LTFRB Franchise Online Application system and traffic violation payments for the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

Digital aid distribution gains momentum

As the government continues to modernize public service delivery, digital platforms are playing a larger role in the distribution of financial assistance programs.

The latest partnership between LTFRB and Maya highlights how digital wallets and financial technology providers are becoming key components of government aid distribution, particularly during periods of economic uncertainty and rising fuel costs.
