EastWest Enables Google Pay Support for Debit Cards in the Philippines
EastWest Bank has expanded its digital payment services by enabling debit card support on Google Pay, allowing customers to make contactless payments using their smartphones through Google Wallet.
The integration lets EastWest debit cardholders pay for purchases with a simple tap on compatible Android devices or wearables, reducing the need to carry physical cards. The move reflects the growing shift toward digital payments as more Filipinos adopt mobile wallets for everyday transactions.
Turning Smartphones into Wallets
With EastWest Debit Cards now compatible with Google Pay, customers can use their phones for in-store payments, online shopping, and even transactions while traveling abroad. The feature works through Google Wallet, where users can store their debit card details securely and access them whenever needed.
The service is backed by the global payment infrastructure of Visa, allowing EastWest debit cards to be accepted at millions of merchants worldwide.
Built-In Security and Control
Alongside convenience, EastWest highlights security as a core component of the rollout. Cardholders can manage their debit cards through the EastWest EasyWay App, which includes features such as card lock and unlock functions to prevent unauthorized transactions.
These tools give customers greater control over their accounts while enabling them to enjoy contactless payments through their mobile devices.
Benefits for Frequent Travelers
For clients under EastWest’s Priority banking segment, the bank’s premium debit card offering adds travel-related perks. Holders of the EastWest Visa Infinite Debit Card can access benefits such as lower foreign exchange fees, waived domestic interbank withdrawal charges, and complimentary international ATM withdrawals.
The card also includes access to Visa Infinite Concierge services, which provide assistance for travel arrangements and other lifestyle services.
Expanding EastWest’s Digital Banking Ecosystem
According to EastWest CEO Jerry Ngo, enabling debit cards on Google Pay is part of the bank’s broader push to modernize digital banking for Filipino consumers.
By extending Google Pay support to debit cards, EastWest builds on its earlier rollout for credit cards, further expanding access to cashless payments while maintaining strong security and global acceptance.
As mobile payments continue to grow in the Philippines, the new feature positions EastWest to support customers who increasingly rely on smartphones for daily financial transactions.
