Everstone Studio and NetEase Games will expand Where Winds Meet on August 20 with “Heaven’s Threshold,” the second chapter of the game’s Hidden Mountain expansion.
The update takes players beyond the mountain city and into high-altitude areas filled with vertical exploration, ancient machinery, new story campaigns, giant mechanical bosses, puzzle-based dungeons, and seasonal activities.
Heaven’s Threshold expands Hidden Mountain
Following the events of the first Hidden Mountain chapter, players will climb the fog-covered peaks of Heaven’s Threshold as part of the community-wide Cloudtop Ascent event.
The activity gradually unlocks a larger mountain area featuring steep cliffside paths, ancient observatories, and other vertical environments. The new story also continues the conflict among the region’s ancient craftspeople, who disagree over whether their advanced engineering should remain hidden or be used to help others.
Giant mechanical bosses add new combat challenges
The expansion introduces two colossal world bosses: the InkPincer Scorpion and Cloud-Seizing Serpent.
Both enemies are built around mechanical designs created by ancient inventors. Players will need to time their attacks around exposed joints and vulnerable sections of their armor rather than relying solely on conventional damage.

A new dungeon, Evershift Labyrinth, takes the mechanical theme further. The underground maze features rotating wooden gears, traditional interlocking joints, security constructs, and movable floorboards that players must manipulate to progress.
Meanwhile, the Campaign of Mirkvale sends players into an abandoned valley occupied by rogue blacksmiths. Players will work alongside a young boy to restore forgotten waterwheels and machinery while investigating the industrial area’s disappearance.
Two new mystic skills expand combat options
Combat receives two additional mystic skills with the update.
Bursting Nine is an archery technique that fires a nine-arrow volley capable of slowing and trapping groups of enemies. World to Sword, meanwhile, converts excess healing power into flying energy blades, adding another offensive option to combat builds.
The update also introduces Reflection Temple, a solo survival mode tied to China’s Ghost Festival. Set inside a haunted mountain shrine, the activity challenges players to follow specific rules, investigate clues, and find a way out.
New activities offer a break from combat

Players looking for something less combat-focused can try Chasing with Kite, a racing mode that supports both solo time trials and online multiplayer.
Pangolin Peddler offers another alternative by allowing players to establish merchant trade routes between remote villages in exchange for rare rewards.
These activities give the expansion a broader mix of exploration, combat, puzzle-solving, survival, racing, and trading rather than focusing exclusively on its main campaign.
Where Winds Meet heads to Gamescom 2026
Where Winds Meet will also appear at Gamescom 2026, running from August 26 to 30 in Cologne, Germany.
Visitors can find the game at Hall 7.1, Booth B-050, where the team will showcase a hands-on demo featuring the finale of the Hidden Mountain storyline. Attendees can also try the upcoming Drunken Master combat style.
The booth will additionally feature a Ghostlight Market-inspired area with exclusive merchandise and a stage show combining traditional martial arts aesthetics with futuristic technology and robot cosplayers.
With Heaven’s Threshold arriving on August 20, Where Winds Meet is set to continue its Hidden Mountain storyline with a larger focus on vertical exploration, mechanical enemies, and new gameplay systems.
