Samsung is rolling out a major update to its file-sharing ecosystem, adding AirDrop compatibility to Quick Share on the Samsung Galaxy S26 lineup.
The update aims to simplify cross-platform file transfers, particularly between Galaxy devices and Apple products that rely on AirDrop.
This marks a notable shift in Samsung’s interoperability strategy, as Android and iOS ecosystems have traditionally maintained limited direct file-sharing compatibility.
Bridging Android and iOS file sharing
Quick Share has primarily functioned as Samsung’s native alternative to AirDrop, enabling fast transfers between Galaxy devices.
With the new update, users will be able to:
- Share files more seamlessly between Galaxy and Apple devices
- Reduce reliance on third-party apps or cloud transfers
- Enable faster peer-to-peer transfers across ecosystems
This move aligns with broader industry pressure to improve cross-platform compatibility, especially as users increasingly operate across multiple device ecosystems.
Rollout begins in Korea, global expansion to follow
Samsung confirmed that the feature rollout begins March 23, initially in South Korea, before expanding to other regions.

Markets in the phased rollout includes Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, Latin America, North America, Southeast Asia, and Taiwan.
Availability will initially be limited to the Galaxy S26 series, with plans to extend support to additional Galaxy devices in the future.
Addressing a friction point
The addition of AirDrop compatibility addresses a long-standing friction point in mobile ecosystems—file sharing between Android and iOS devices.
For users, this could mean:
- Faster content sharing in mixed-device environments
- Improved productivity for work and collaboration
- Less dependency on messaging apps or cloud storage
For Samsung, the update strengthens Quick Share’s position as a more versatile sharing solution, while signaling a gradual shift toward more open and connected device ecosystems.
