Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Return to Nintendo Switch on Pokémon Day
Nintendo has announced that Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version are coming to Nintendo Switch on February 27, just in time for Pokémon Day.
The titles will also be playable on the Nintendo Switch 2 system and mark the first time in more than 20 years that the Game Boy Advance remakes return on modern hardware.
Revisiting the Kanto Region
Originally released in 2004 as remakes of the 1996 Japanese titles Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green, FireRed and LeafGreen reintroduced players to the Kanto region and its original 151 Pokémon.
Players will once again encounter iconic characters such as Brock, Misty, Professor Oak, and Giovanni, while experiencing classic turn-based gameplay and the original soundtrack.
The Switch versions retain features introduced during the Game Boy Advance era, including Pokémon abilities, natures, weather conditions, held items, and player character gender selection
Modern Connectivity on Switch
Unlike the original Game Boy Advance releases, which required a Game Link Cable for trading and battling, the Nintendo Switch versions allow players to link up locally without additional hardware.
The games will be available digitally via My Nintendo Store and Nintendo eShop in English, French, and Spanish.
Pricing and Availability
Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version launch on February 27, 2026, with a suggested retail price of $19.99 USD each. Select retailers will also carry the titles during launch week.
The re-release coincides with the franchise’s 30th anniversary celebrations, giving longtime fans and new players alike the opportunity to revisit one of the most iconic eras in Pokémon history.
