Digital Assistants An Overview of What’s Out There

There has been a lot of hype out there either online or in mainstream media about the digital assistants, and no these assistants are different from the virtual assistants that a lot of freelancing and enterprising internet savvy Filipinos have become. These assistants are better known as Siri, Google, Cortana, and Alexa. These are the names of the Digital assistants currently in the marketplace.

First of Question What is a Digital Assitant?

A Digital Assistant is a voice-activated piece of technology that usually addresses simple questions like “What is the weather today?” and other simple tasks. The gadget is also known as the smart speaker.

What’s already available?

Ok to answer the question on what is already available out there let’s go thru this list coming from the some of the leading tech companies out there.

1. Siri

Hey, Siri is an expression already most of us are familiar with. Apple has already installed this digital assistant in their devices for the last couple of year. We have heard a lot of people talking to their phones and asking daily mundane questions not really penetrating the mainstream.

2. Hey Google

Google Home is a digital assistant that also doubles up as a speaker. The technology leverages Google’s search technology and can answer most of the questions. The device is obviously needed to be linked to the internet.

3. Hey Alexa

Amazon has also their own voice-activated digital assistant the Amazon Echo is similar to the Google Home, this time Amazon is leveraging on their own marketplace and database. The device also needs internet connectivity to unleash its full potential.

These are just 3 of the biggest Digital assistants out there. We are expecting more to come in 2019 and we will see what more is there in the upcoming 2019 CES which will most likely feature a lot of Digital Assistants. Hopefully, we start getting this more mainstream in the coming year in the Philippines.
