Crunchyroll has confirmed that Sekiro: No Defeat, the hand-drawn anime adaptation of FromSoftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, will stream as an eight-episode series starting January 2027.
Produced by KADOKAWA, Qzil.la, and ARCH, the anime will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll worldwide, excluding Japan, China, Korea, Russia, and Belarus.
The episodic release will also include additional content beyond the theatrical version currently screening in Japan.
Sekiro anime expands beyond theatrical version
Sekiro: No Defeat adapts the story of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, following Wolf and Kuro through a reimagined version of Sengoku-era Japan.
The series explores the game’s themes of loyalty, blood, and sacrifice while expanding the story for an episodic format.
The anime was originally planned for a limited three-week theatrical run in Japan, but its theatrical release has been extended due to popular demand.
Before its Japanese theatrical release, the film screened at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival as part of the Feature Films: Midnight Specials program and later received its North American premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival.
FromSoftware game gets full anime adaptation
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was developed by FromSoftware, the studio behind Elden Ring, Bloodborne, and Dark Souls, and published by Activision. According to the announcement, the game has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide.
The anime adaptation is being led by director Kenichi Kutsuna, with Takuya Satou handling the screenplay and Takahiro Kishida serving as character designer. The production team also includes Shunsuke Fukui as deputy director, Kaito Moki as chief animation director, Takashi Mukoda as action animation director, and Yuji Kaneko as art director.
Shuta Hasunuma is handling the music, with ARCH serving as producer and Qzil.la as the production company.
Sekiro: No Defeat cast
The Japanese voice cast includes Daisuke Namikawa as Wolf, Miyuki Satou as Kuro, also known as the Divine Heir, and Kenjiro Tsuda as Genichiro Ashina.
Sekiro: No Defeat will begin its eight-episode streaming run on Crunchyroll in January 2027. The announcement did not provide an exact premiere date or details on the weekly episode release schedule.
