REDMI 17 battery life shapes Xiaomi’s Philippine launch

Xiaomi is launching the REDMI 17 Series in the Philippines on October 19, with the lineup centered on battery capacity, durability, and pricing for practical smartphone buyers. The series includes the REDMI 17 4G and REDMI 17 5G, with prices starting at ₱12,999 and ₱14,999, respectively.

The company says the REDMI 17 battery life focus is designed for users managing long commutes, schoolwork, communications, entertainment, and other daily tasks. Both models use a 7,500mAh battery, support 45W turbo charging, and offer 22.5W wired reverse charging for compatible devices and accessories.

Xiaomi frames the battery for phones used as alarm clocks, navigation tools, mobile offices or classrooms, entertainment and communication hubs, and cameras for spontaneous moments. That broader role is central to the REDMI 17 battery life pitch.

Xiaomi lists up to 28 hours of video playback, 91 hours of music playback, and 46 hours of calling for the REDMI 17. For the REDMI 17 5G, the company cites up to 28 hours of local video playback, 109 hours of music playback through Bluetooth earphones, and 53 hours of calling. Actual battery performance will vary based on usage, settings, and network conditions.

The company says a full charge takes approximately 96 minutes, while a 35-minute charge can provide enough power for a day of typical use. These figures are manufacturer claims and are not independent test results.

Display and durability

Both phones feature a 6.9-inch display with a 120Hz AdaptiveSync refresh rate that can shift between 60Hz, 90Hz, and 120Hz. Xiaomi also lists Triple TÜV Rheinland certifications and DC dimming for the display, along with dual stereo speakers offering up to a 300% volume boost.

For everyday protection, the series uses Corning Gorilla Glass 7i and carries an IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance. Wet Touch Technology is intended to keep the screen responsive when fingers are damp. The phones are not designed for underwater use, according to the source material.

The REDMI 17 runs on the MediaTek Helio G91-Ultra processor, while the 5G model uses the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 Mobile Platform. Both run Xiaomi HyperOS 3 and support up to 12GB of RAM with Memory Extension. A 50MP AI dual-camera system and front-and-rear dual-view shooting are also included.
