EastWest is seeing increased use of digital banking for customer onboarding, with 47% of new accounts now opened through its EasyWay app since the bank introduced digital account opening.
The app now lets eligible customers open savings accounts and apply for EastWest credit cards directly from their mobile devices, including submitting requirements and completing identity verification.
EasyWay expands digital account opening
Eligible customers can open a savings account through EasyWay using a valid ID. Existing EastWest customers can also open additional peso and foreign-currency deposit accounts through the app.
The platform also supports EastWest credit card applications, allowing customers to submit requirements and complete identity verification without starting the process at a physical branch.
EastWest CEO Jerry G. Ngo said the expanded digital onboarding is intended to reduce the steps customers need to take when opening accounts or applying for credit.
The bank’s adoption figures point to growing use of digital channels for these processes, with nearly half of new accounts now being opened through EasyWay.
Digital payments continue to grow in the Philippines
EastWest’s expansion comes as digital financial services continue to account for a larger share of transactions in the Philippines.
According to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) figures cited by EastWest, digital payments accounted for 64.7% of transactions in 2025, up from 57.4% in 2024.
The figures reflect the broader shift toward mobile and online channels for financial transactions, including payments, transfers, and banking services.
EasyWay combines banking services in one app
Beyond account opening, EasyWay lets customers manage existing accounts, transfer funds, pay bills, and monitor transactions through the same platform.
EastWest also operates other digital services, including Komo for payments and ESTA for customer support. The bank describes the combination of digital services and personalized assistance as part of its broader “phygital” banking approach.
With digital savings account opening and credit card applications now available through EasyWay, EastWest is adding more customer onboarding processes to its mobile banking platform.
