Canon has introduced the EOS R8 Mark II, a compact 24.2-megapixel full-frame mirrorless camera designed for photographers and video creators who want full-frame capabilities in a lightweight body.
Weighing approximately 546 grams with its battery and memory card, the EOS R8 Mark II measures about 131.4 x 90.0 x 79.7mm. Canon says it is the company’s smallest and lightest full-frame EOS R-series camera with in-body image stabilization.
EOS R8 Mark II adds 5-axis stabilization and 40fps shooting
The camera uses a full-frame CMOS sensor paired with 5-axis In-Body IS to reduce blur from handheld movement.
When paired with a compatible RF lens with optical image stabilization, Canon’s Coordinated Control IS can provide stabilization equivalent to up to 7.5 stops at the center and 7.0 stops at the edges, based on CIPA 2024 standards and specified test conditions.
For fast-moving subjects, the EOS R8 Mark II features Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, Pre-Continuous Shooting, and electronic-shutter burst shooting at up to 40 frames per second.
The camera also introduces a multi-controller joystick for autofocus control through the viewfinder, a feature Canon says is being brought to a full-frame camera in this class for the first time.
Another autofocus feature, Register People Priority, lets users register specific people so the camera can prioritize them during tracking. Canon notes that use of the feature is subject to applicable laws and consent requirements, including the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012.
New color filters and Creative Assist features

Canon is also adding several in-camera tools aimed at photographers and creators who want to establish a particular visual style without extensive post-processing.
The EOS R8 Mark II introduces two new Color Filters, NegativeFilmtone and PositiveFilmtone, alongside the 14 existing filters. Users can also adjust color-filter strength.
Its Handheld Night Scene mode adds four color settings: Blue, Black & Orange, Pink, and Green.
For beginners, the camera introduces Creative AUTO, an intuitive interface that provides creative assistance while users learn to adjust their images.
Video creators can also use the expanded Background Blur Creative Assist interface in movie mode, including shortcuts for automatically applying a preset blur level and speed.
The camera further supports Slow & Fast Motion Movie and Cinema View modes.
4K 60p video and livestreaming features
The EOS R8 Mark II can record 6K-oversampled 4K video at up to 60p, as well as Full HD video at up to 180p with audio.
For more advanced workflows, the camera supports Canon Log 3 and a Custom Picture function derived from Canon’s Cinema EOS lineup. This includes support for Custom LUTs and additional picture-control adjustments.
Creators can also choose from four wired and wireless livestreaming options, including multi-angle livestreaming through the Live Switcher Mobile app.
Canon is further adding support for VR workflows. The camera is compatible with full-frame and APS-C VR lenses and supports VR Clear Mode, which is designed to improve contrast and clarity when viewing footage through VR goggles.
Still images can also be converted into 3D models using Canon’s new Dual Pixel 3D Converter software, which uses distance information captured through the camera’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF system.
Three accessories launch alongside the camera
Canon is also introducing three accessories alongside the EOS R8 Mark II.
These include the Extension Grip EG-E2, which provides a larger grip and supports tripod mounting and battery changes; the Tripod Grip HG-1000TBR, bundled with the Bluetooth Remote Controller BR-E2; and the Speedlite EL-5 (Ver. 2).
The updated Speedlite increases its wireless communication range to approximately 50 meters, up from 30 meters on the existing EL-5.
The EOS R8 Mark II is positioned as a full-frame option for photographers and creators who want a lighter camera without moving away from Canon’s more advanced EOS R-series features.
