SM City San Pablo Guard Saves Life with Heimlich Maneuver

SG Hassan Pasco, a guard at SM City San Pablo, was awarded a plaque of recognition by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) for his quick thinking and decisive action in saving the life of a customer who was choking.

On June 25, 2023, SG Pasco was conducting his regular rounds when he saw a 74-year-old customer who was struggling to breathe. The customer was choking on a piece of food, and SG Pasco immediately recognized the need to act quickly.

As a trained first responder, SG Pasco knew how to perform the Heimlich maneuver. He quickly put his arms around the customer and gave him several abdominal thrusts. The food was dislodged, and the customer was able to breathe again.

SG Pasco’s actions saved the customer’s life. The CDRRMO Management Council in San Pablo, Laguna commended SG Pasco for his quick thinking, decisive action, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the preservation of human life.

SG Pasco is also a certified first aid trainer with the Philippine Red Cross. He regularly undergoes refresher courses, and he is always willing to share his knowledge with others.

The city Administration Office also awarded SG Pasco with a cash prize of P10,000.

SG Pasco’s story is a reminder that even the smallest act of kindness can make a big difference. His quick thinking and decisive action saved a life, and he is a true hero.
