ONE Championship: New Era – Who Will Win?

ONE Championship: New Era

Main Card Assessment and Bold Predictions Part 2 of Part 2:

Kevin Belingon vs. Bibiano Fernandes

Another trilogy offering to the MMA fans out there. Kevin Belingon (the striker) vs Bibiano Fernandes (the grappler). These warriors have one win a piece against each other, with Belingon snatching the ONE Championship Bantamweight belt from Fernandes via split decision last Nov of 2018. Many fans are still divided as to the outcome of the bout, with both side of the fence believing they are the genuine recipient of the split decision victory.

Fernandes submitted Belingon the first time they met. Click here for our analysis of the second fight The Filipino was not given the opportunity to test his striking against the Brazilian. In their second bout however, Belingon displayed tremendous improvements not only with his striking and timing but in his ability to escape Bibiano on the ground. My Filipino biased prediction of the outcome on the 31st of March – Belingon will knock out Fernandes to silence all doubters.

Demetrious Johnson vs Yuya Wakamatsu

The Mighty Mouse saga continues.

In the next chapter of Demetrious Johnson’s illustrious MMA career. He joins ONE Championship’s Flyweight world grand prix. He will face the young up-and-coming Japanese fighter Yuya Wakamatsu. A necessary first obstacle to determine whether DJ can handle the best in the Asian MMA scene and cement his legacy as one of the best in the world.

Demetrious Johnson has all the arsenal to handle any fighter, be it on the ground or on their feet. Only one thing is certain though, the judges will have no part in the outcome of the fight.

Eddie Alvarez vs Timofey Nastyukhin

USA against Russia

Alvarez’s quest to become the first ever title-holder in all three major MMA promotions begins as he face the ever dangerous Timofey Nastyukhin. A knock-out artist with a very impressive win over the current Lightweight Champion Eduard Folayang.

This is a tough match-up for Alvarez, as Nastyukhin can stand and bang with the best in the lightweight division. But then again Alvarez will definitely have the Japanese crowd cheering for him once again in Tokyo on 31 March. So I pick Alvarez to win this fight via submission.

Andy Souwer vs Yodsanklai IWE Fairtex

Expect fireworks to erupt as the two most exciting kickboxers in the world starts the ball rolling for the main card of ONE Championship’s New Era in Tokyo, Japan. The Ryogoku Kokugikan crowd will definitely be delighted to witness the action in the kickboxing super series as Andy Souwer and Yodsanklai Fairtex tests their mettle and be one step closer to being the world’s best. Yodsanklai has never disappointed his fans before, I being one of them hopes he gets the win.
