Sony Philippines Hosts Manila Wedding Masterclass, Unites Top Wedding Creatives

Sony Philippines gathered leading wedding photographers and videographers for the Manila Wedding Masterclass, a My Sony member-exclusive event held at Enderun Events in Taguig on February 11.

The masterclass marked the first time Sony Philippines brought together its roster of Sony Alpha professionals specializing in weddings for a full-day educational and hands-on experience focused on modern wedding storytelling.

Focus on Real-World Wedding Production

Designed for photographers, videographers, and hybrid shooters, the Manila Wedding Masterclass mirrored the pace and pressures of an actual wedding day. The program combined structured talks, panel discussions, and live shooting demonstrations, alongside hands-on gear sessions.

Sony Philippines President and Managing Director Shuhei Sugihara opened the event, followed by a presentation on Sony’s imaging philosophy and wedding-focused innovations. The spotlight included the Sony Alpha 7 V, positioned as a hybrid camera built for fast-moving, high-stakes environments such as weddings.

Industry Leaders Share Insights on Modern Wedding Storytelling

The masterclass featured prominent wedding creatives including Jaja Samaniego, Jason Magbanua, Jiggie Alejandrino, Pilar Bonnin, and Sherard Yu — all Sony users known for shaping contemporary wedding photography and filmmaking in the Philippines.

During a panel discussion, speakers explored how social media has influenced wedding trends, client expectations, and creative direction.

Samaniego emphasized collaboration and storytelling rooted in authenticity, noting that while social platforms influence aesthetics, the foundation remains understanding the couple’s story.

Magbanua highlighted the importance of maintaining a distinct creative voice amid trend-driven pressures, particularly in wedding filmmaking and same-day edits.

Alejandrino discussed balancing personal style with client expectations, stressing adaptability while staying grounded in technical fundamentals such as lighting and composition.

Yu shared insights on hybrid shooting, pointing to the evolving demands placed on professionals who deliver both photo and video coverage. He noted that adapting to technological advances is essential as wedding production workflows continue to evolve.

Bonnin, known for her portrait work, encouraged creatives to draw inspiration beyond the wedding genre to avoid repetition and maintain artistic growth.

Hands-On Sessions Simulate Real Wedding Scenarios

Following the panel, attendees participated in “Touch and Try” sessions staged across indoor and outdoor setups.

Indoor demonstrations focused on cinematic wedding videography and same-day editing techniques. Outdoor stations explored natural light storytelling, structured lighting setups, and fine-art portrait execution. Participants were able to test Sony cameras and lenses in simulated wedding environments.

The format was designed to provide practical, scenario-based training rather than purely theoretical discussions, allowing attendees to apply techniques in real time.

Sony Announces Contest and Gear Giveaways

During the event, Sony Philippines also announced a contest for participants. Organizers gave prizes that include the Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II lens, a G Master Premium Kit, and partner-sponsored gear from brands such as Benro, Epson, Gutek, Hollyland, and Nanlite.

Strengthening Sony’s Wedding Community

The Manila Wedding Masterclass reflects Sony Philippines’ growing focus on the wedding photography and filmmaking segment, particularly within its My Sony membership ecosystem.

By combining education, product experience, and community-building, the event positions Sony not only as a camera manufacturer but as a stakeholder in the professional development of wedding creatives across Metro Manila.
