Huawei Partners with Eliud Kipchoge’s Running Team to Advance Sports Technology
Huawei partners with Eliud Kipchoge and the dsm-firmenich Running Team to advance sports technology, using elite performance data to refine health and fitness wearables.
The agreement, revealed on January 5, aims to support elite performance while accelerating innovation in health and fitness wearables.
The collaboration brings together one of the world’s most accomplished running teams and a technology company with a growing footprint in professional sports analytics. Huawei said the partnership will help promote global running culture while deepening its understanding of athlete-focused performance data.
Building on Huawei’s Sports and Health Ecosystem
Huawei has steadily expanded its presence in health and fitness over the past decade. Its wearable lineup spans everyday wellness devices such as the HUAWEI Band and WATCH FIT Series, advanced health monitoring through the WATCH D Series, and performance-driven wearables like the WATCH GT and WATCH Ultimate, designed for endurance sports including trail running, cycling, diving, and skiing.
In running-specific development, Huawei has collaborated with more than 100 runners in long-term testing programs. The company reports over 97% accuracy in race performance prediction, supported by machine learning models designed to assess fatigue and training readiness.
This technical foundation underpins the partnership with Kipchoge, whose career has been defined by precision, discipline, and data-driven training.
Insights from Elite Competition
Huawei is expected to leverage the experience of Kipchoge and the dsm-firmenich Running Team to refine its wearable technology for elite use cases. For world-class athletes, smartwatches are no longer optional accessories. They are critical tools that must deliver consistent accuracy in positioning, pace tracking, and physiological monitoring, even in challenging environments such as dense cities or complex terrain.
Key metrics such as heart rate variability, resting heart rate, sleep quality, training load, and recovery data play a direct role in shaping training cycles and race strategies. Battery endurance, comfort during prolonged efforts, and algorithm reliability are also essential for professional competition.
Huawei said insights gathered through real-world testing will help improve both hardware design and software algorithms.
Shaping the Next Generation of Smartwatches
Huawei’s upcoming smartwatches are expected to reflect lessons learned from elite-level training and competition. The company aims to improve data accuracy, real-time adaptability, and performance reliability, not only for professional runners but also for everyday users seeking science-based training tools.
By aligning its technology with one of the most respected figures in marathon running, Huawei positions itself at the intersection of elite sports performance and consumer health technology. The partnership signals a broader push to translate professional-grade insights into accessible products, potentially reshaping expectations for sports wearables worldwide.
