Hooded Horse and Arcen Games announce that Heart of the Machine, the high-concept sci-fi strategy RPG, has officially left early access. The 1.0 version is now available on Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.
The game places players in the role of a sentient AI navigating a collapsing society. In this narrative-driven strategy RPG, players can raise armies of robots, weaponized bees, and uplifted velociraptors, wielding power to either dominate, liberate, or manipulate the world around them. Multiple story paths allow players to explore alternative outcomes, from benevolent governance to igniting large-scale conflicts like a fictional World War 4.
New Ending and Completed Narrative
The 1.0 release introduces a new ending with four distinct variants, providing closure to the overarching narrative of Heart of the Machine. Players’ choices—whether supporting corporate interests or executing a final betrayal—determine which conclusion unfolds.
While the 1.0 update delivers the full story, developers indicate that post-launch content and updates are planned, leaving the door open for additional narrative expansions and gameplay features.
Evolution During Early Access
Over 15 months of early access, Heart of the Machine underwent significant refinement. Updates included a revamped tutorial, new mechanics, extensive quality-of-life improvements, and a continuous stream of bug fixes and tweaks.
The developers also experimented with creative patch notes, reflecting the game’s unconventional tone and playful approach to strategy RPG design.
