Fallen Tear: The Ascension Enters Steam Early Access on March 17
Fallen Tear: The Ascension will launch in Early Access on PC via Steam on March 17, developer Winter Crew and publisher CMD Studios announced.
The hand-animated, story-driven Metroidvania will release on consoles at a later date, including Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and Xbox One.
Early Access Content Overview
The Early Access version will include 15 to 20 hours of content, featuring 10 interconnected regions, six main bosses, three optional bosses, and the opening act of the story.
According to CMD Studios, the Early Access period will allow the team to collaborate closely with fans and Kickstarter backers, with ongoing updates planned in the months following launch.
A Story-Driven Metroidvania with Ally Mechanics
Set in the world of Raoah, players take control of Hira, a mysterious child tasked with confronting ancient gods. Exploration spans lush forests and cavernous underground regions, with the world map evolving in response to player actions.
A central mechanic revolves around forming “Fated Bonds” with allies encountered throughout the journey. These bonds grant abilities that enhance both combat and traversal. Players can also unleash combined attacks known as Fated Rush moves.
The game blends traditional Metroidvania exploration with JRPG-inspired elements, including recruitable party members, skill upgrades, and layered combat systems. Presentation features hand-drawn 2D animation and full voice acting.
Community-Driven Development
CMD Studios founder Stephen Manalastas said the studio aims to refine the experience alongside its community throughout Early Access, shaping the final version of Fallen Tear: The Ascension through player feedback.
The March 17 Early Access launch marks the next milestone for the long-running indie project as it prepares for its eventual multi-platform release.
