Bellwright Surpasses 1 Million Sales on Steam Early Access

Medieval survival RPG Bellwright has surpassed one million units sold while still in Early Access on Steam, developer Donkey Crew announced in partnership with Snail Games USA.

The milestone comes less than a year after the game launched in Early Access in April 2024. The developers also confirmed that Bellwright will release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S when the game exits Early Access and reaches its full 1.0 version.

Open-World Survival RPG Focused on Settlement Building

Bellwright blends open-world exploration with survival mechanics and strategic settlement management. Players build and expand their own settlements, recruit villagers, and lead resistance efforts to reclaim territory across a medieval landscape.

The game also incorporates combat and faction systems, allowing players to command forces and participate in large-scale battles while uncovering the backstory of the protagonist’s exile.

This mix of survival gameplay and RPG progression has helped Bellwright build a strong player base during its Early Access period.

Major Updates Expand the Game World

Since launch, the developers have released multiple content updates aimed at expanding the game’s world and systems.

One of the largest additions arrived through the Maiden Voyage update, which introduced the Halmare Isles map. The new region spans more than 10 square kilometers and is roughly 25 percent the size of the original game world.

The update added new story-driven questlines, additional equipment and armor options, new wildlife, and expanded building systems. It also introduced a Loyalty and Faction system designed to deepen political and strategic gameplay within the open world.

Developers Heading to GDC 2026

Representatives from Donkey Crew will also attend Game Developers Conference 2026 in San Francisco, where the team plans to discuss the ongoing development of Bellwright.

Creative Director Florian Hofreither is scheduled to be available for interviews at the event, which runs from March 9 to 13.
