The Lenovo DreamWorks technology partnership supports Forgotten Island production

MANILA, Philippines — Lenovo and DreamWorks Animation are continuing a long-standing technology collaboration supporting the production work behind Forgotten Island, a new original animated feature inspired by Filipino culture, mythology, and experiences.

The companies’ Lenovo DreamWorks technology partnership brings together workstations, high-performance computing infrastructure, data center technology, and services for DreamWorks’ artistic and technical teams. The arrangement is intended to support the computing and production requirements involved in creating animated characters, environments, and scenes.

DreamWorks expanded its relationship with Lenovo in 2025 by naming the company its preferred compute services, workstation, and solutions provider. According to the announcement, the studio has used Lenovo high-performance workstations in workflows across its operations, while Lenovo infrastructure has supported the large-scale computing requirements involved in creating animated worlds and characters.

The Lenovo DreamWorks technology partnership builds on years of work between the two companies. The announcement does not identify specific Lenovo workstation or infrastructure models used for Forgotten Island. It describes the technology role more broadly, positioning computing, data center systems, and services as part of the production environment supporting the studio’s creative and technical work.

“Every animated film begins with artists and storytellers, but bringing their ideas to the screen also requires a technology foundation capable of keeping pace with their imagination,” said Kate Swanborg, SVP, Technology Communications and Strategic Alliances, DreamWorks Animation. She said the film gave the studio an opportunity to build a world inspired by Filipino culture and mythology, while technology partners supported the production environment.

Forgotten Island follows lifelong friends Jo and Raissa, voiced by Grammy and Academy Award winner H.E.R. and Filipino actress Liza Soberano. As they prepare to take different paths after high school, they are transported to Nakali, a fantastical island populated by magical and mythological creatures rooted in stories from their Filipino families.

At the center of the story are Jo and Raissa’s friendship and the mysterious island of Nakali, where creatures and stories familiar to generations of Filipinos become part of a larger adventure about memory, change, and holding on to the people who matter.

The film is written and directed by Academy Award nominee Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, and produced by Academy Award nominee Mark Swift. The filmmaking team previously worked on Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. The voice cast also includes Dave Franco, Jenny Slate, Manny Jacinto, Dolly de Leon, Jo Koy, Ronny Chieng, and Lea Salonga.

For Lenovo Philippines, the Lenovo DreamWorks technology partnership demonstrates how technology can support stories rooted in local experiences without becoming the focus of the creative work. Michael Ngan, President and General Manager of Lenovo Philippines, said the collaboration provides creators with performance and reliability so they can focus on the story they want to tell.

Ngan also said the film is meaningful in the Philippines because it presents a story deeply inspired by Filipino culture to audiences globally. DreamWorks’ Swanborg similarly said the technology support helps production teams concentrate on creating the characters, environments, and moments that make Nakali feel alive.

Lenovo’s announcement places the collaboration within the broader production of Forgotten Island and does not announce a new hardware launch or consumer product tied to the film. The movie is now showing in theaters nationwide, according to the supplied announcement.
