9 out of 10 Filipinos utilize over 4 hours every day browsing the net, scrolling websites and clicking links. While it is convenient to do almost everything online, it is possible that unverified links, also known as click baits, may come along the way without being noticed.<\/p>\n

These links appear to be harmless as it imitates the interface of legitimate bank websites. However, potential dangers are associated as it tricks users to provide their sensitive bank information.\u00a0 Clicking these links may also download malwares and viruses that infect mobile devices and personal computers, collecting important information and using them to make illegal transactions.<\/p>\n

In 2015, the Philippine National Police-Anti Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) reported a total of 1,211 cybercrime complaints of both online scams and online identity theft. With the rising threat in clicking unsafe links, PSBank Vice President for Information Security Dan Jose D. Duplito shares the following tips on how you can avoid being victimized by these clickbaits:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Be wary of the sites that ask personal and account related information.<\/span><\/b> Reputable websites usually begin with “https”<\/i><\/span>ensuring that the website is secure.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Install a quality anti-virus application on your mobile devices and personal computers.<\/span><\/b>Install and update your anti-virus regularly as new innovations in viruses are becoming more advanced.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Turn on your browser pop-up blocker.<\/span><\/b> This restrictive setting helps you avoid encountering malicious pop-up activities from running.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Be vigilant. <\/span><\/b>If you think that your account has been compromised, call your bank\u2019s customer service hotline to enable them to monitor any suspicious activities in your account. <\/span><\/p>\n
