Players can also use unconventional weapons such as Umbrellas and Fans, each providing different tactical options.

Martial arts abilities, including pressure-point techniques and Tai Chi, can be learned through exploration and used not only during combat but also for traversal and puzzle-solving.

The game also features Lightness Skills, allowing characters to leap across rooftops and move through forests as they explore its Jianghu-inspired world.

Yuen Woo-ping brings decades of martial arts expertise

To strengthen its cinematic approach to wuxia combat, Where Winds Meet has worked with renowned action choreographers including Stephen Tung Wai and Yuen Woo-ping.

Yuen, whose credits include Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and The Matrix, serves as the game’s Global Action Consultant. His involvement includes helping develop new weapons and combat techniques for the game.

The result is a combat system designed to combine traditional martial arts influences with the freedom of an open-world action RPG.

No pay-to-win combat advantage

Where Winds Meet is also positioning its free-to-play model around a no-pay-to-win approach.

Core storylines, open-world areas, and martial arts progression are available without payment. Paid items are limited to cosmetics and do not provide combat advantages, while some cosmetic rewards can also be earned through in-game events.

The Vietnam launch adds another regional chapter for a game that has already built a substantial global audience.

The title surpassed 100 million global players and won Best Mobile Game at gamescom 2026, while its Steam version previously peaked at more than 250,000 concurrent players.

With Funtap now handling its Vietnamese publishing operations, the next phase will depend on how effectively Where Winds Meet can translate its global momentum into a sustained local community.

Where Winds Meet has officially launched in Vietnam following a Hanoi event that outlined NetEase Games’ plans for localized operations, community programs, and long-term content support for the wuxia action RPG.
