Once locked, those funds cannot be used for digital transactions, providing an additional barrier against unauthorized transfers if an account is compromised.

Customers can adjust the protected amount or unlock their funds when needed, allowing them to keep money intended for savings separate from funds used for regular digital transactions.

For individual customers, EasyLock is available through the EasyWay app. Corporate users can access the feature through EasyBiz, subject to their company’s approval workflow.

The feature gives customers another layer of control alongside existing account security measures, particularly for funds that do not need to remain immediately accessible for digital spending.

New safeguards target account compromise and disputed transactions

EastWest’s Banking Made Safer initiative also introduces several measures designed to respond to different stages of a potential security incident.

Emergency Shield allows customers to immediately suspend digital account access and outgoing transactions if they suspect their account has been compromised. The Transaction Pause Period temporarily restricts digital transactions after key account information is changed, providing an additional window to detect potentially unauthorized activity.

Meanwhile, Temporary Holding of Funds allows funds associated with disputed transactions to be temporarily held while verification is conducted.

Together, these measures are designed to address threats beyond individual transactions, particularly scenarios where scammers obtain account information or attempt to make unauthorized changes.

Security becomes a bigger part of digital banking

As more financial transactions move online, banks are increasingly adding controls that allow customers to respond directly to potential fraud instead of relying solely on back-end security systems.

EastWest CEO Jerry Ngo said the bank’s approach is intended to balance stronger protection with ease of use.

“Through Banking Made Safer, we are giving customers practical tools such as EasyLock that help them take a more active role in protecting their funds,” Ngo said.

The bank’s new measures also support its implementation of Republic Act No. 12010, or the Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act (AFASA), alongside applicable Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas regulations.

EastWest gives customers more control over protected funds

EasyLock’s focus on separating savings from digitally accessible funds reflects a broader shift in how banks approach account security.

Rather than treating fraud protection solely as a bank-side responsibility, features such as account controls, transaction pauses, and emergency locks give customers additional ways to limit potential losses and react when something appears suspicious.

EastWest is encouraging customers to use EasyLock for funds they do not regularly need for digital transactions. The feature is available through EasyWay for individual accounts and EasyBiz for corporate accounts, subject to the applicable approval process.

As digital banking threats continue to evolve, EastWest’s latest security rollout highlights how financial institutions are increasingly combining fraud detection with customer-controlled safeguards to make everyday digital banking more secure.

EastWest is expanding its digital banking security measures with Banking Made Safer, a suite of features designed to give customers more control over their funds while adding safeguards against unauthorized transactions and account compromise.
