Esports World Cup (EWC) 2026<\/a> officially opens in Paris, France, marking the start of the tournament’s first international edition and the beginning of seven weeks of competition featuring the world’s top esports players and organizations.<\/p>\n

An opening press conference at H\u00f4tel de Ville welcomed players, organizers, government officials, and industry leaders ahead of matches at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, where more than 2,000 players from over 100 countries will compete until August 23.<\/p>\n

The move also marks the tournament’s biggest expansion since its launch, bringing EWC<\/a> beyond its Riyadh origins while maintaining Saudi Arabia as the event’s long-term home.<\/p>\n

Paris becomes the next stage for global esports<\/h4>\n

Organizers said Paris was chosen for its reputation as a global destination for major sporting and cultural events, reflecting the EWC’s ambition to establish itself as an international esports spectacle.<\/p>\n

French officials echoed that vision during the opening ceremony, describing the event as another milestone for the country’s growing esports ecosystem as France prepares to unveil its national esports strategy for 2026\u20132030.<\/p>\n

Millions competed to reach Paris<\/h4>\n

The opening follows the largest Road to EWC qualification campaign to date.<\/p>\n

More than 1.5 million players participated in 330 qualifying tournaments worldwide before the field was narrowed to 2,000 competitors representing 200 esports clubs from more than 100 countries.<\/p>\n

Competition spans 25 tournaments across 24 game titles, making this the largest Esports World Cup yet.<\/p>\n

Club Championship returns as EWC’s defining race<\/h4>\n

Beyond crowning champions in individual titles, the EWC’s signature Club Championship once again rewards organizations that consistently perform across multiple games throughout the event.<\/p>\n

A total of $30 million from the tournament’s $75 million prize pool is reserved for the Club Championship, with $7 million going to the overall winner.<\/p>\n

Defending champion Team Falcons enters Paris looking to secure a third straight Club Championship after winning the previous two editions.<\/p>\n

Ronaldo, Carlsen headline global esports showcase<\/h4>\n

Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and chess grandmaster Magnus Carlsen return as Global Ambassadors for EWC 2026, highlighting the tournament’s continued effort to bridge esports with traditional sports and mainstream entertainment.<\/p>\n
