Astana will host the International Esports Federation (IESF) World Esports Championship 2027 (WEC27) after IESF<\/a> officially signed the host agreement with the Government of Kazakhstan and the Qazaq Cybersport Federation, making the Kazakh capital the next destination for one of the world’s largest nation-based esports tournaments.<\/p>\n

The agreement positions Astana as the centerpiece of international esports in 2027, with qualifiers expected to involve more than 150 IESF member federations before national teams converge in Kazakhstan to compete under their respective flags.<\/p>\n

Astana to welcome world’s national esports teams<\/h4>\n

The host agreement was signed by IESF, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Qazaq Cybersport Federation during the launch of Kazakhstan’s University Campus initiative.<\/p>\n

WEC27 will continue IESF’s nation-based competition format, where athletes qualify through their officially recognized national esports federations instead of professional clubs. The tournament aims to bring together players, officials, and fans from across the globe while promoting international competition through national representation.<\/p>\n

IESF President Vlad Marinescu described the championship as more than just another esports tournament, emphasizing its focus on representing one’s country.<\/p>\n

“WEC27 will be more than a championship. It will be a global celebration of nations, athletes, and the future of esports.” Marinescu said. “For every player, there is no greater honor than competing under their national flag and officially representing their nation on the world stage.”<\/p>\n

Kazakhstan expands its esports ambitions<\/h4>\n

For Kazakhstan, hosting the World Esports Championship aligns with its broader push to strengthen esports alongside investments in technology, education, and youth development.<\/p>\n

Minister of Tourism and Sports Yerbol Myrzabosynov said hosting WEC27 reflects confidence in Kazakhstan’s ability to organize an event of international standards while creating new opportunities for young people through esports and digital innovation.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Qazaq Cybersport Federation Board of Trustees Chairman Kuanyshbek Yessekeyev called the hosting rights a historic milestone for the country’s esports community, adding that the federation aims to deliver a world-class championship while strengthening Kazakhstan’s position as a regional esports hub.<\/p>\n
