SIBOL booked six spots in the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan after surviving one of the most demanding qualification campaigns in the program’s history, with the Philippine Esports Organization (PESO)<\/a> simultaneously managing three international qualifiers across Southeast Asia.<\/p>\n

SIBOL qualified in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Honor of Kings, Naraka: Bladepoint, Puyo Puyo Champions, Pok\u00e9mon UNITE, and Identity V, while narrowly missing a clean sweep after the PUBG Mobile squad fell just one point short of advancing, losing the final qualification spot to Jordan via tiebreaker.<\/p>\n

Six qualifications highlight SIBOL’s campaign<\/h4>\n

PESO Executive Director Marlon Marcelo described the result as largely meeting the federation’s expectations.<\/p>\n

“Within expectations naman. We wanted all seven disciplines to qualify, but unfortunately we fell short in PUBG Mobile by a very slim margin of just one point.” Marcelo said. “The job’s not finished but I want to commend our SIBOL national team executives\u2014sina Jab, Jeff, at Coach Ralph\u2014for doing their best and making sure we qualified in six of the seven game titles.”<\/p>\n

The final weekend of qualifiers saw the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang squad secure its ticket in Singapore, while the Honor of Kings team punched its place in Nagoya through the qualifier in Malaysia. Meanwhile, the PUBG Mobile roster battled in Vietnam before ultimately missing qualification by the narrowest of margins.<\/p>\n

Three-country operation stretched PESO’s resources<\/h4>\n

Beyond the competitive results, the PESO head pointed to the logistical challenge of conducting three separate qualification campaigns simultaneously in Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam.<\/p>\n

Unlike previous qualification cycles where multiple esports titles were hosted in a single country, this year’s format required PESO to divide its executives, heads of delegation, and support staff across three international events.<\/p>\n

Marcelo said the federation created three separate operational groups to ensure each national team received the necessary support throughout the tournaments.<\/p>\n

“Normally kasi sa isang bansa lang ginaganap kung may multiple game titles. So all of your executives and support staff will be concentrated in just one country. Ngayon, you have three different countries so na-stretch talaga tayo in terms of manpower.”<\/p>\n

Despite the added strain, Marcelo credited PESO officials for helping reinforce each campaign. “We were able to manage it naman with the support of our executives. May mga lumipad din na PESO executives to reinforce the campaigns ng ating mga SIBOL national teams,” he added.<\/p>\n

While travel and accommodation presented logistical hurdles, Marcelo said the federation completed the operation without any major incidents.<\/p>\n

Focus shifts to medal campaign in Nagoya<\/h4>\n

With qualification complete, SIBOL will now begin preparations for the 2026 Asian Games, where they believes the national team has multiple medal opportunities.<\/p>\n

Although Marcelo said winning medals in all six qualified titles would be the ideal outcome, he stressed the need to remain realistic while expressing confidence in the country’s representatives.<\/p>\n

“Syempre, we wanted na kung kaya anim na medals out of the six. But we also have to have a realistic expectation,” Marcelo said. “I hope na I be proven wrong. Kung sakali, edi anim na medals edi ang saya nun para sa atin.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
