Two new systems at the University of Cambridge, powered by AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs, also entered the TOP500 rankings at positions 67 and 68.

Meanwhile, LUMI, operated through the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking and hosted by CSC – IT Center for Science, continues to serve as one of Europe’s primary platforms for AI and scientific computing.

In France, GENCI is developing Alice Recoque, the country’s first exascale supercomputer. The system will use sixth-generation AMD EPYC processors and AMD Instinct MI430X GPUs to support both high-performance computing and AI workloads.

Together, these projects illustrate Europe’s broader investment in expanding regional supercomputing capacity, with an emphasis on strengthening AI research, scientific innovation, and technological sovereignty through locally operated computing infrastructure.

AMD previews next-generation Instinct MI430X GPU

Alongside the latest rankings, AMD also previewed its upcoming AMD Instinct MI430X during the HPC User Forum 2026 and ISC High Performance 2026 in Hamburg.

The accelerator is designed to address the convergence of AI and traditional high-performance computing by combining AI acceleration with high double-precision (FP64) performance.

According to AMD, the Instinct MI430X is projected to deliver more than 200 teraflops (TFLOPs) of native FP64 performance, making it well suited for demanding workloads such as climate modeling, materials science, aerospace simulation, nuclear fusion research, and AI-assisted scientific computing.

As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into scientific research, supercomputing centers are placing greater emphasis on accelerators capable of handling both machine learning and precision computing within a single platform.

With a growing presence across both the TOP500 and Green500 rankings, AMD continues to strengthen its position in the high-performance computing market, supporting next-generation supercomputers used for scientific discovery, industrial research, and AI development worldwide.

AMD has strengthened its position in high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI), with its technologies now powering four of the world’s 10 fastest supercomputers and four of the 10 most energy-efficient systems in the latest TOP500 and Green500 rankings.
