Smart Omega delivered the surprise of the season as they upset reigning world champions Aurora Gaming with a come-from-behind win in Week 4 Day 2 of MPL Philippines Season 17<\/a> on Saturday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Barangay mounted a comeback from a 0-1 series deficit to take down the Northern Lights for just their second win of the season, improving to 2-5.<\/p>\n

Aurora started Game 1 strong, dominating Omega and building a 15,000 gold lead after 17 minutes of gameplay. Dylan “Light” Catipon\u2019s 1\/1\/11 performance on his signature Grock powered the heavy favorites.<\/p>\n

However, Smart Omega managed to extend the game by holding their base and clearing waves, though they still dropped the opener.<\/p>\n

Aurora carried their momentum into Game 2 and controlled most of the map until the 22nd minute, when Smart Omega read their play perfectly. James “Jeymz” Gloria executed a well-timed block against Light and Jonard Cedrix “Demonkite” Caranto\u2019s Conceal play, forcing Aurora into a bad fight.<\/p>\n

From there, Omega picked off all five Aurora members one by one to even the series, with Jeymz\u2019s Arlott earning Game MVP honors after posting a 2\/4\/8 KDA.<\/p>\n

Smart Omega entered Game 3 with a roaming Guinevere and Dean “Raizen” Sumagui on his signature Fanny, opting to avoid full team fights and instead focus on map control.<\/p>\n

The Barangay found their opening in the 18th minute, baiting Aurora into contesting the evolved Lord without Raizen in sight. While the Northern Lights secured the objective, Raizen\u2019s Fanny went for the game-winning push, catching Aurora a step too late as John “Perkziva” Sumawan\u2019s Guinevere bought crucial time.<\/p>\n

Aurora slipped to 2-4 following their third straight loss and will look to bounce back against fellow strugglers AP.Bren on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Twisted Minds closed out their first-half campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 win over TNC Pro Team. Lance Aron “Lansu” Misa proved to be the difference-maker with key plays on Arlott and Phoveus, tallying a 7\/8\/26 line across three games. Twisted Minds improved to 3-4, while TNC dropped to 1-6 after their fourth straight loss.<\/p>\n

Team Falcons PH, meanwhile, made quick work of AP.Bren, sweeping them in the day\u2019s second series. Michael “Kyle” Sayson starred for the Green Falcons, recording 12 kills and nine assists while dying just twice in under 30 minutes of combined game time.<\/p>\n
